Chapter 22 Damon
I announced my relationship with Kaine to my friends a week after we started dating. Although Sam was not very happy about the fact that I had hidden the information from him, he was supportive of the relationship. Having known Kaine for a long time, I knew that Sam trusted my boyfriend.
Kaine and I took things slow. He never pushed me into doing anything against my will. Although things always got heated pretty quick every day, we haven't planned on going that far until we felt that the time was right. I mean, it sounds a bit pathetic, but we're both serious about this relationship so we didn't want to mess it up.
I'm happy about how things are working out. From time to time, Kaine and I would argue, but it never got too serious. I know that in my case, I just couldn't stay mad at him for longer than a day, especially when he's practically begging for forgiveness by throwing himself at me. He's just so adorable and funny, especially when he pulls on his puppy-dog face but knows that it doesn't work on me.
Sam kept a close eye on us. He believed that I'm still a virgin, but what he doesn't know wouldn't hurt, right? He's my brother, but he can't expect me to talk to him about my sex life, could he?
Now that Kaine and I are together, he drives me to and from school every day. We were nearly inseparable, doing everything together. However, Damon kept him away from me during training sessions because he wanted to keep it PG-13 although he knew that I hadn't done it with him, yet. If anything, Damon would be the only one that I would confront about my sex life. I mean, we were best friends and I had lost my virginity to him after all. I knew that he could keep my secret, even if he was held at gunpoint; I trust him with my life.
"What are you thinking about?" Damon asked as he came into my room, snapping me out from my own little world.
"Nothing," I lied smoothly, not even blinking.
"I hope you're not thinking anything R-rated," he teased. "So, what are you thinking?"
I knew that I would never hear the end of this if I didn't tell him, so I did the only thing that could get him off my back. "I'm thinking about how much I trust you," I replied.
"Awww," he cooed. "This is why I love you," he stated excitedly.
I snorted. "Yeah, right. Weren't you always telling me how much you love my sexy body? Because I swear to God, I've been hearing that non-stop ever since I got into shape."
He flushed. Damon could be so cute sometimes. He never turns red, unless he's angry or he got caught. I pinched his cheeks. "Stop doing that," he whined, swatting at my hand. I removed my hand from his cheek as he began complaining. "It hurts! Why did you pinch me?" He was acting like a three year old, especially when he's staring at me with his puppy-dog face.
"Awww, what do you want me to do?" I asked sweetly as if I was talking to a three-year-old.
He looked at me expectantly, "I want you to kiss my boo boo."
I burst out laughing at the sound of his voice. He sounded just like a three-year-old with that voice. His eyes watered a little. I was trying to refrain myself from laughing, but I couldn't. "Damon, stop doing that, it's funny but a little creepy at the same time," I managed between laughing.
"Alright, but I still want that kiss," he said, his voice returning back to normal.
"You should do that more often. It only proves me right that you're a big baby that can't grow up," I happily suggested.
"Hey!" he groaned, acting like he was offended.
"Alright, alright." I leaned forward and pecked him on the cheek that I had pinched him. "Are you feeling better now?" Damon brings the childish side out of me. I can't help it. Although he's a few years my senior, he acted more like a child when he’s around me.
"I want a hug too, AJ!" He looked at me with a big smile.
"Stop acting like you're three!" I was a little exasperated. Did I forget to mention that he also brings the short-tempered side out of me?
He gave me his famous puppy-dog face and let out a soft whimper when I glared at him. I pulled him into a hug and stayed in the embrace until he pulled away, which was a while later. I also forgot to tell you that Damon was my soft spot. He'd been my friend for only four years, but I felt a connection to this bad boy that I had never felt with anyone else. Despite his tough exterior, Damon could be easily hurt. When our friendship started, he never talked about his family. He never told anyone about his family. Two years ago, he was really upset when I found him. He had been alone in the training room, hitting the punching bag as if his life depended on it.
Flashback
I hadn't been able to sleep, so I decided to make a trip to the training room. Exercising always helped me sleep better. I grabbed a bottle of cold water from the fridge and made my way to the training room. As I approached the door, I heard faint echoes of punching coming from the room. Who could be up this late? I wondered. When I stepped in, I saw an angry Damon, throwing wild punches at the bag. He'd never been like that before. Damon had always been composed and calm, never letting anything get to him.
"Damon." My voice was barely above a whisper, but he had heard me. I didn't know how or why, but the next thing I knew, I was moving towards him. The anger in his eyes were like fire and I had been scared, but I knew that I wanted him to be the happy and flirtatious boy that I have come to see as my best friend. I couldn't stand seeing him looking so devastated. He turned back to face the punching bag. "Damon, look at me, please," I pleaded. He wasn't moving. He just stood there like a statue. I place a hand on his shoulder, but he flinched at my touch.
"Anastasia, you should leave," he replied coldly with a warning tone. "I don't want your sympathy.
I was shocked. "Who said I was sympathizing?"
"Why are you here then?"
"I'm here because I couldn't sleep."
"I don't mean why you're here, I want to know why you're standing here, talking to me." He sounded irritated.
"I'm here because I want to help my friend."
"There's nothing you can help me with."
"I know you don't want to talk about it, but it's better if you let it all out."
"I am letting it all out. Can you not see that I'm punching this thing?" He glared at me looking more and more annoyed.
"I'm saying that you should talk to someone about it."
"For your information, I don't need to tell you-"
The door slammed shut behind me, cutting off his next words as I stalked out of the room. I knew that there was nothing else that could have been done besides giving him more space. I knew that eventually he would come tell me, I wasn't going to push it. I walked back to my room to prepare a relaxing bath since I wasn't going to get my workout.
About fifteen minutes into my bubble bath, Damon came knocking on my bathroom door. He let himself in, not even bothering to wait for my reply. I was kind of use to him barging into my bathroom in the middle of my showers. Our relationship is inexplicable.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get annoyed at you. It's just...there's so many problems that I'm dealing with." He looked at me apologetically. I waited for him to continue. "My parents are getting a divorce." He started playing with my bath water, running his fingers through some bubble.
Damon is three years my senior, but we get along better than anyone else. A mutual trust had established ever since we met. It just felt right to tell each other things that we don't confront others about.
