Chapter 15 Anastasia (Seth's Point of View)

I can't believe that she had actually fooled me. I shook my head in disbelief as I watched her retreating figure. She brought the door closed behind her and I found myself staring dumbfounded at where she’d just been standing. I walked over to the bed and sat down, the soft comforter gave away a little under my weight.

I have had a bad experience with trusting people. A few years back, I had a girlfriend who betrayed me with my best friend. Everything turned out to be a disaster. I didn't handle it well, throwing my friend a few punches. Ever since then, I didn't trust anyone. I mean, of all people, she chose my best friend and he was shameless enough to actually go behind my back and cheat with her. God, I don't even know how I ended up befriending such a guy and dating a bitch. I was depressed for a pretty long time. I had left the apartment that my friend and I shared since my parents had died, spent day and night wandering the roads and sleeping wherever I could. It had been a month until Mr. Jameson found me and asked me to join him. He was a nice guy, treating me as if I were his own son. He took care of me, fostered me and made me stronger.

I hadn't agreed to this task because I wanted to. I did it because I wanted to be able to repay Mr. Jameson. Although I have been assisting Mr. Jameson for a while, he has never told me much about his kids, especially, Anastasia. She was trying to get me to talk, but I couldn't because I've already lost everything in my life. I know that I was going to be in denial about it for the rest of my life, but once in a while I would admit it to myself and build up my defense mechanism once again to go back into denial.

Although Anastasia had shown me something that I hadn't expected when she cooked our dinner, I still don't believe that she was doing it without an objective. She might not have bad intentions, but there was no way that it would be good.

The way she acted only proved that I was right. After all, she was a rich, spoiled brat who got everything she wanted. She was haughty and impolite, yet people had surrounded her and worshiped her as if she was a goddess. Well, she is as beautiful as a goddess, but that still wouldn't change the fact that her inner beauty isn't as impressive. Appearance doesn't matter; one is not beautiful without inner beauty.

I was trying to figure her out ever since I saw her, but she showed me nothing that she didn't want me to see. Anyone who was capable of such acts must be a professional. As a guard and an assassin, we have been trained to monitor the signs that the human body gives off, with our eyes. We have to be observant and try to see through an act before it was too late to respond to it correctly. It had taken me a while to get used to and had taken me a longer time to learn how to apply it, but I still caught on, yet this girl had made it look so simple and effortless.

I sighed as I tossed and turned some more on my bed. I ended up falling asleep with thoughts of her clouding my mind. The next thing I knew, my alarm sounded and I quickly showered and changed before heading downstairs. Damon was making breakfast and everyone was there, waiting eagerly. Anastasia, however, was nowhere to be found.

I was glad that she wasn't there since I really didn't want to talk to her, but I knew that she didn't mean any harm. I have tried doing research on her besides the information that Mr. Jameson had given me on his daughter, but either she was absolutely too clean or there are layered security on every single one of her files. This is a typical girl who has an overprotective family.

The more I thought about her, the more annoyed I got. I just couldn't stand people who could get whatever they want just by asking. They have the easy way out of life. They don't have to work hard for what they want, unlike the rest of us. She's supposed to be the prince's bodyguard in a few months and yet she still needs us to protect her. She's probably just another stupid blonde girl. There's a part of me that wanted to argue, seeing how she acted yesterday, but the majority of me wanted to believe that she was just skilled in the field of acting and hiding herself while the real her is a dumb blonde.

Just then, Anastasia entered the kitchen and sat herself on the kitchen island. Something about her seemed off today, but I couldn't quite grasp onto it.

"How is it going?" Sam asked her.

"There's a lot of stuff and the files are huge. I've only managed to go through two files last night," she replied. A cup of coffee was set in front of her by Damon. "Thanks," she said, not even bother looking up at him, not even a smile. Wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

"You should have gone to bed." She stayed up all night? Doing what? Isn't her 'beauty sleep' more important than anything?

"I'll be fine at school." Although her reply was nonchalant, it still reassured Sam. It was pretty obvious that Sam had faith in his sister, but a part of him was still worried about her.

Subconsciously, I started to observe Anastasia. I hadn't realized what was off about her until I focused a little closer around her eyes. Her circles were darker than yesterday and she had used makeup to cover it up. Her skin was flawless and her eyes were big. She had thick eyelashes that surrounded her blue eyes. I felt lost in her eyes, her smile, her features that I didn't realize what was happening. What the hell? Quickly, I gathered myself up before going back to my room to grab my backpack. I can't believe that that just happened. How in the world did I get lost in her eyes? I joined the rest of them in the garage. The guys were all busy admiring the cars that the Jamesons owned. I assumed that everyone had already picked their ride for the day. Sam was Anastasia's ride and they're ready to go.

First day of school, I took a deep breath before walking over to a random car and got in. I need to get my hands on her files.
