Chapter 13 Dad's Note
After a few weeks, Damon started coming to our school to pick us up. I don't know what's going on, but I could feel that something was off. Damon has never been like this before. He was protective, but he was never like this. Even after that night, he didn't start to come straight to school to pick me up. Something big was definitely going on and he wasn't telling us.
"Why do you think that Damon's been kind of jumpy lately?" I asked Sam as we were driving home, Damon's car at our tail.
"I don't know, but he seems kind of tense. Wanna ask him what's going on, later?" He looked at me expectantly. I simply nodded as I glued my eyes onto the rear view mirror to watch Damon. "What's going on, ‘Stasia? What happened that first night when he showed up? I don't know what you two were doing and I don't want to pry, but you looked weird that night when you came out of his room. He wasn't even there to see you off to your own room," he observed.
I resorted to the only that I could possibly do in this situation: lie. "Remember how we were talking about how I'm not interested in Jayden?" He nodded. "Well, I went to check on him that night and he was doing his usual thing. I got bored and almost fell asleep. Then he suddenly picked up that topic again and started asking me who I was interested in. He continuously convinced me to consider what's his face and I wasn't happy, so I was arguing with him the entire time. There were some screaming going on as well, as I had kind of lost my patience with arguing with him. I was screaming into the pillow so that kept the volume down a bit. We finally talked it out and then I went back to my room."
No doubt he had believed me, but I know that he was still suspicious, so I just shrugged. We drove home in silence and only started talking again when we reached the house. We came up with a plan to dig the information out of Damon.
The plan, being perfectly executed, got Damon to talk.
"I think people are being sent after you."
"But we're not involved with the affairs of Salvania. They don't have any records on us," Sam said, confusion crossing his face. Don't get me wrong, I was as lost as my brother.
"I have installed the surveillance system throughout the house. There were some guys loitering around the house these days. I'm trying to get a hold of some of their background information, but I don't know how long it's going to take." He looked at us hopelessly.
"I'll help," I offered.
"I'm in, too," Sam declared.
Damon looked at us and considered. "Alright," he concurred. "I'll show you the footage. Too bad you guys don't have the technologies for the job, but hopefully we can get something on them."
"We'll see what we can do about it. Let's make dinner first. What are we eating tonight?"
"Why don't we make mini Italian club sandwiches for snack and then invite the others to dinner with us? Buffet?" I suggested.
The two boys looked at each other and nodded eagerly in my direction. They were grinning so wide that they seemed like little kids who just got rewarded with candy.
"Well, let's get started. And make some snacks for the guys, too." I pondered for a moment before continuing, "Or maybe we should call the guys over right now as we prepare snack. We could hang out at the house for a while and then go out for dinner. Plus, they've never been to our place before and we're always the ones bothering them."
"That's a good idea. Damon can meet our friends, too." Sam commented happily.
I looked over at Damon and gave him a reassuring smile that says 'It will be alright. They will like you.' He reflected my smile and gave me a nod.
