Chapter 24 Jayden
Unfortunately, there was one more month left of summer vacation. I started going out more often after pulling myself together. Spending the days at the beach and attending parties during the evening became the normal routine for all of us. After a while, though, partying every night got a little old, so we'd always think of something new to switch it up a bit.
I've managed to make a couple of friends at the beach and at parties. I never expected myself to like this place, but I learned to love it. Salvania is full of chill people. Everyone is so carefree and lives a peaceful, yet exciting life.
I went back to the grand house to grab some file that Dad had left me before he left on another business trip with Mom.
"'Stasia, so nice to see you again. Your father left the file in your bedroom," Mr. Barrins greeted with his usual warm smile. Mr. Barrins is the housekeeper (kind of). He takes care of everything in the house and he's Dad's second hand man.
"Hi Mr. Barrins, I'm sorry that I haven't stopped by for a while," I said apologetically.
"Don't worry about it, darling. I have some things to take care of. Just leave me a text when you're leaving." I nodded and walked past him into the house. My room was in the West Wing with my brother's. The North Wing was my parents'. The East Wing is for the people working around the house and the South Wing is for guests. Every wing is designed similarly. The only difference is the size of the bedrooms and that the North and West Wing are private.
I entered my room and found a manila folder sitting on my desk. The content of the folder consisted of a complete profile check on Anthony and everything else that Dad has found out about him.
I grabbed the manila folder and made my way to the monitor room. Dad had managed to gain access to satellites and all the security cameras around the world. Don't ask me how because I have no idea how that happened. I started reading the papers in the manila folder as I pulled up the security cameras around the house.
When I glanced up at the screen, I did a double take. Wandering through the West Wing was my assignment and I wasn't sure that I was seeing this correctly. Dad informed me that Jayden was going to be back by the end of summer vacation, but he was home early now.
Mr. Barrins knew that Jayden was in the house. He had to go attend to him, which explains why he was rushing off. I sighed as I realized that this encounter was inevitable. Sooner or later, I would have to meet Jayden. I'd pick later any day, but today was not the day. Through the camera, I saw him make his way to my room. Wait, why is he going into my room? I pulled up the screen of the security cameras in my room and found him lying on my bed. What the hell is he doing? Why is he lying on MY bed? I thought.
I stalked out of the monitor room and headed back to my room, only to find him fast asleep. The anger that had pummeled through my veins began to dissolve as I walked over to my bed. He looked so innocent and peaceful in his sleep. I grabbed my blanket and tucked him in after taking off his shoes. For some reason, I didn't hate him as I thought I would. I may have hated him simply because of the fact that I was betrothed to him without being consented, but I surely didn't hate him now that I saw the innocent side of him as he slept. The realization hit me. Jayden had always used my room, though the room was mine in the first place. The clothes that I found when I just came here were his. I sighed as I made myself comfortable on my sofa after I grabbed a random book off the shelves of my mini library.
After a while, I looked up to my clock to find that it was almost 4. Jayden had been sleeping for quite a while. I had a feeling that he would wake up soon, so I placed the book back on its shelf and made my way to the kitchen.
I looked through the fridge and found some ingredients and made a couple of sandwiches from scratch. I made a couple of batches of cookies and packed some up to take back with me for the guys. I made a pitcher of iced tea and put everything on a plate before taking everything back to my room.
Just as I had expected, Jayden was waking up and looking confused at the blanket that covered him. When he heard the door open, his head snapped up and his body tensed.
"Oh, hey, you're awake. I walked over to my desk with the food and set everything down. Pouring some iced tea into a tall glass, I made my way towards Jayden and handed it to him. Though he was hesitant, he still took it. "I thought you might want something to eat after your long nap," I told him.
"Who are you?" he asked cautiously.
"Anastaisa, but people call me 'Stasia."
He nodded as he regarded me while sipping his drink. After gulping down what was remained in the cup, he handed it back to me and got off the bed. "That was refreshing. Thanks for the drink," he said as he made his way to the food. "This is for me?" he asked, pointing at the food in front of him.
"Yeah, but I'm eating with you," I sighed. He sat in my wheely chair as I lowered myself onto the chair across from him. He poured us both some iced tea and handed me my cup.
He looked at the sandwiches and frowned. I walked over to his side of the table and pulled out a knife out of a drawer. I quickly cut the crusts off the bread and the sandwich, diagonally, into two. A smile crept onto his face as I handed him a slice and he thanked me. It wasn't until we had finished eating that he started looking at me weirdly.
"What?" I asked. "Is there something on my face?" My hands involuntarily went up to my face.
"Uh...no. I want to thank you for the delicious lunch and uh...I was just wondering. How do you know that I like my sandwiches halved and no crust?"
"Well, I would love to explain it all to you so that you wouldn't freak out at how much I know about you, but I think I should leave that task to your parents. Anyway, I've got to go. I was supposed to leave hours ago, but you came and yeah. If you're planning on staying, your clothes are still in its original places, just don't freak out when you see a lot of girl clothes."
I said goodbye to him and went back to the monitor room to grab the manila folder, then the kitchen to get the cookies and finally back to my car. The last thing I saw was him, gaping at me.
"Ms. Jameson," my chauffer greeted me once again.
"Nick, stop calling me that. And I must apologize for making you wait so long. Have you eaten?" I asked as he opened the door for me.
"That's okay 'Stasia. Mr. Barrins was quite nice and offered me lunch when he saw me waiting for you." He closed the door and made his way back to the drivers side of the car and got in.
"Here's a little something for you," I told him as I handed him a bag of cookies. "I'm still really sorry about making you wait."
He smiled at me through the rearview mirror and I returned his smile.
