Chapter 4 The Next Day

At dinner, Dad told us that we've been enrolled in Peterson High School, not too far from our place. Sam and I went back to our own rooms and did some research on the school. We made good use of our practice and hacked into the school's computer system. I took my computer and went to Sam's room.

"Look at this," I said pointing to the computer screen with the roster lists for each grade, after getting myself comfortable on his bed. He brought his computer over and laid down next to me, looking at what I was pointing at.

"Looks like you're going to have to deal with Selena again, but hopefully, you'll show her that you're no longer you," he said. "You're not going to be in the same grade, though."

"I have to take the placement tests if I don't want to be in the same grade."

"'I'm sure that can be arranged."

"Of course it can be done," Dad suddenly said, startling Sam and I. He walked into the room. "Everything is set up. The principal agreed to allow you to go in the day before school's open to take the placement tests."

"Dad, how did you.. " I was lost for words.

"The school security camera captured everything."

"You hacked into the school's security system?"

"Of course I did. I had to make sure that my daughter's doing well in school. I was going to intervene, but I overheard you talking with your brother and I thought that you were right. It's your life, so we live it your way. That was part of the reason why I decided to pull you out of school. I wanted to pull you out of school earlier, but your mom stopped me and told me to wait until seventh grade to see if things got better."

"Thank you, Dad. I really appreciate everything that you've done for me." I got up from the bed and went over to hug him. He patted me on the back before letting go.

"It's nothing. I should have done something for you before, I just never got the chance. The principal will contact you directly from now on. If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask."

"Dad, I will make sure that Sam knows everything that's going on. I won't let anyone hurt me anymore. This is my life and I'm going to live it the way I want. I love you, Dad."

"I love you, too. Now, you two better not stay up too late. Just coming by to warn you that your mom and I are leaving tomorrow morning, so don't be surprised when you can't find us around the house when you wake up tomorrow. Bye, kids."

"Bye Dad," Sam and I said, simultaneously.

Sam and I went back to discussing about school and finding out whose in which class. We had too much fun hacking into the school computer that it was 2 AM when we decided to sleep. We made sure that we covered our tracks and went off to bed.

The next morning, I woke up around 9:30 to find my parents gone. I went to check on Sam before heading to the kitchen to have breakfast. Chef Daniels was already in the kitchen waiting for me, preparing my breakfast.

"You know me too well, Mr. Daniels," I said to him. "I don't understand how you always end up knowing when I wake up. The walls are sound proof."

"Some things just don't change," he replied.

He was right. Even if physical appearances and personalities change, some little habits still remain. It's not something that I would notice because it was my habit and part of my life style; it's like my daily routine.

I have spent four years in training and during those four years, certain habits have changed, but some still remained. For example, I never slept past 9:30. No matter how tired I am, I would wake up at 9:30 as long as I don't have school. On weekdays, I wake up at 7:00 no matter what. I don't even know how my body works.

I quickly ate breakfast and went back to my room to grab my phone. I had promised Damon to text him as soon as I got settled. However, as things have seem kind of chaotic around the house, I've been trying to get everything organized and trying to make sense of all the new information that I'm gathering through my computer.

I haven't been on Facebook or Aim for the past two days that I've gotten home, which explains why I was spammed like crazy. I had over 54 notifications on Facebook and most of it was from Damon. I made sure to reply him first so that he wouldn't be pissed when he finally received my message. After all, I'm not the only one who knows how to hack.

I grabbed a book off my bookshelf and settled on my couch to get some reading done while I waited for Sam to wake. He told me that he was planning to meet up with some of his friends; I heard something about a surprise. He wanted to catch up with them and find out what was going on around here so that the two of us wouldn't seem too out of place when we got back to school. More importantly, we had to make sure that certain things were taken care of. Sam believed that I should have people watching my back. Although he trusted that I was able to protect myself, it was still not a good idea to be fending myself when I'm supposed to be undercover.

I didn't argue with him, knowing that my attempt in doing so will only fail miserably against his stubbornness. He has a way of getting what he wants, especially when he's so stubborn. His so called "logic" is so distorted that it causes headaches for almost everyone who decides to argue with him. I'm just glad that I could deal with him most of the times.
