Chapter 17 Preparation

Since Damon had modeled the house long ago, we made use of the new addition in our house and trained harder. The thirteen of us would spend up to three hours a day doing one-on-one combat. However, since we have an odd number of people, I'm always training with two other people. This was Sam's decision because he believed that I should work harder than everyone else for I'm the only girl within this crowd of boys. Sam have always been protective of me and he’s been complaining about my laziness, so he's trying to make me work harder.

Today is the day of the party, yet we're still working out. Although it's currently 3 o'clock, we've been working out for 3 hours already, which means that we still have two more hours of training left. I mean, it sounds crazy, but I guess it's a nice workout. I'm not really trying, if that's what you're wondering. Just because Sam wants me to work harder, doesn't mean that I would actually do as I was told. I would put in more effort if I was more challenged. I'm stuck with Leon and Seth. I was lazily deflecting blows coming from both boys. Although Seth is putting in everything he could into this training, (I would be honest and say that) it really wasn't much of a challenge. Leon was barely doing anything. I mean, if you watched him, he would probably look like he's working really hard. To tell you the truth, however, Leon is only pretending to be serious about what he's doing.

"Leon, can you be a little more serious about this training? I haven't even broken a sweat since training started," I complained. Turning to Seth, I gave him an apologetic look as well as apologized for my words.

Both Leon and Seth suddenly stopped altogether. "One-on-one?" Leon challenged. I gave him a nod and we got into our positions. Seth went to the side for a break.

Leon has an overall advantage over everyone because of his built. Every inch of his body is  muscle and you don't even have to get close to see it. He has a greater mass than most people on the team and he would use it in his advantage. The big guy lifts weights every single day. Right now, he's practicing with four hundred pounds. Anyway, back to training.

Leon is eyeing me impatiently in his fighting stance; his eyes never strayed from my face, looking for a sign. I know that he will start attacking any moment now because he lacked patience. I cleared my head and stopped thinking. The best way I fight is by acting on instincts, not by thinking. I have a sixth sense for predicting my attacker's next move, but this only happens when my mind is cleared. He made his first move and I had dodged it easily. Leon was in the mood for a nice challenge, so I gave it to him. I dodged every one of his attacks and threw in a few, myself. I got him in his sides a few times, but he didn't even take a moment to wince at the pain. I made a fake move, my fist aiming for his face. He brought his arms up to block my fist while I kicked out his leg. He was on his back, ready to get up, but I was even faster, my right hand enclosing around his neck. I won.

I gave him a hand to help him up as he congratulated me. Everyone was staring at me as if I grew out another head. Seth was gawking at me, his mouth agape. Sam was proud of me, insisting that I fight like that from now on. He said that it would save him a lot of worrying and promised to stop all the bickering.

We decided that we needed a break and went off to clean ourselves up. We met in the living room and put on a random movie, Twilight. Everyone was criticizing the movie, saying how what's-her-face couldn't act.

When it was 5:30, we all went back to our rooms and got dressed for the party. This was a semi-formal party, but most people would dress up pretty formally. I'm going with a casual white ruffled hem dress with belt. I tied my hair back into a ponytail and started applying some white eyeshadow with a touch of silver at the ends. I then outlined my eyes using a black eyeliner and then brushed my lashes with a coat of mascara. After applying a light pink shade of lip gloss, I walked over to my walk-in closet and put all my makeup away. I walked over to the shoe section of my closet and pulled out a pair of black, open toe stilettos with wrap up straps. I walked out of my closet and gave myself a once over before walking out of my room.

"I swear, Damon, if you open  your mouth and make any comments, I will take you down," I threatened when I saw him. The two of us were alone in the hallway and you probably guessed what that means. Whenever Damon and I were alone, he would start sexually harassing me, physically and verbally. "Are they all downstairs?" I asked before he could give me a witty comeback.

"Yeah. Everyone's waiting, so they sent me up here to look for you," he replied, trying hard not to comment on my outfit.

"Let's go then, we don't want to keep them waiting." I sashayed towards the stairs without giving Damon another glance. I knew that sooner or later, he'd realize that I was gone and snap out of his dirty thoughts. Despite the fact that I had given him my first, it was only a one time thing.

"Some guys came over early to help us get ready," Sam bellowed from downstairs. I was already half way down the stairs when Kaine greeted me, waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs.

"Hey there," he said smoothly. "Looking good." Kaine is bold, at least in front of me. Kaine and I have been friends for over ten years and he was loyal to me, just like Wez. He had stayed by my side no matter what happened to me. He had stood up for me whenever I was getting bullied and he was around. Despite my protest, Kaine was stubborn. After many attempts at trying to convince him to stop standing up for me, I gave up. The more I insisted for him to stay back and just let everything happen to me, the more he resisted and the more protective he got around me.

"Right back at you. Who are you trying to impress?" I joked.

He shrugged. "No one specific, but I have to make myself presentable," he said nonchalantly.

"How are you going to play prince charming without a damsel in distress?"

"You're my damsel in distress," he said with a smirk. This only provoked me to figure out whether or not he liked me. I mean, it really didn't matter even if he did, right? I was destined to be the future queen of Salvania.

"I'm always the one you're saving, aren't I?" I said tiredly. I heard Damon approach the stop of the stairs, so I steered Kaine away. "Come on, let's go set out the food," I said cheerfully. He smiled at me, that smile that had always made my heart melt and my knees go weak. I was thankful that he had his arms around my waist, supporting me.

"I didn't know that I still had that effect on you," he whispered into my ear. His grip on me tightened as his smirk grew even wider. Well, he always knew what his smile does to me. Sometimes, he'll do it purposely to tease me.

I blushed and tried to look away from him, but the intensity of his stare prevented me from doing so. He's doing it again, making me look into his eyes. I'd always lose myself in his eyes. Somehow, I found the will to look away and only blushed even deeper than I had before.

I heard Damon approaching and Kaine probably heard, for he began walking me into the kitchen.

"Hey, did it hurt when you fell?" Wez hollered across the kitchen.

"Well, I was about to find out before you asked," Kaine accused.

"It's too bad then," he retorted. Wez turned to me and asked, "So, did it hurt when you fell?"

"Wait, I didn't..." I trailed off. I knew I've heard it somewhere before. It's one of the most famous pick up lines. These boys are unbelievable. It takes two to play the game, but before I could open my mouth and reply, Damon was already replying for me.

"I caught her when she fell," he stated. "It took a while for me to convince her to come home with me, but she still did." He gave me a wink and walked past the three of us.

"Oh, so you went home with him?" Kaine said angrily. To the others, it may have seen like he was pretending. However, somewhere deep down inside of me, I know that he's truly mad.

"Of course I did, but he's my slave!" I screamed loud enough for Damon to hear. The only reaction I got from Damon was laughter.
