Bucky
When she awoke in the morning Bucky was staring at the ceiling, her still tightly clutching onto his arm. He was still in his jacket and gloves which she knew she had insisted he take off but he wouldn't. He couldn't.
"You stayed." Bucky hummed in response, not turning to look at her as she spoke. "Thank you Bucky."
He turned to look at her then, hearing the sincerity in her voice. He knew how hard it was to feel as if someone was out to hurt you around every corner, like you constantly had to watch your back or something would break. He didn't want her to feel threatened within the world, he hadn't known Lia long but seeing her in pain that night triggered something inside him. He found the need to protect her like he couldn't protect himself, to keep her safe and give her options which he never had. He needed her to keep her autonomy.
"It's nothing doll." Lia's grip tightened around his arm which only caused his face to twitch slightly.
He wanted to hold her like he used to hold the women in the 1940's but he wasn't that man anymore. He could try all he wanted to get back to the care free person he was then but he knew it would never feel the same way. Lia eased the pain a bit for him, made it slightly easier. He was fighting his nightmares a little more with her around, not wanting her to think he was stupid for screaming in the middle of the night.
"I really appreciate it." As she looked up at him he could see the mascara stains surrounding her eyes from the shock, making her look as if she was extremely tired. He knew that couldn't be possible, she had slept straight through the night locked onto his arm like a koala in a tree. It was cute, even if he wasn't keen on it.
"Honestly, it's nothing." He weakly smiled back at her as she nodded, not wanting to move as she knew this moment would end. Bucky didn't want her to move either.
"Buck! Open up!" The pounding on Bucky's door made both of them jump, startled by the loud voice. Lia's grip tightened on Bucky's arm, the look in her eyes instantly changing to fearful. Bucky knew that look anywhere, he'd seen it in the eyes of everyone he had ever killed.
"I think someone wants you." Lia laughed a little as the pounding didn't stop, Bucky knew she was fake laughing. Her eyes didn't crease the same as they did when she truly found something funny. The sound that left her was mire pitiful and it upset him, he hated seeing her so upset.
"It's just Sam." Bucky's voice came out as more of a growl, he didn't mean for it too but Sam's presence was particularly irritating when the woman he had been consoling seemed to attach herself to him.
"James Buchanan Barnes open this door!"
The pounding got louder as Bucky rolled his eyes, watching Lia carefully. She shifted, removing her grip from around his arm. He thought he would be relieved at the loss of contact but he missed it. The metal did not seem so daunting when she had her small hands wrapped around it.
"I think you need to go and answer it." Lia looked up at him through her eyelashes, biting lightly on her lower lip. The blood rushed to Bucky's dick instantly, seeing her looking at him like that made him wonder what she would look like on her knees for him.
He didn't mean to view her in this light but he didn't exactly get much female attention and when he did it was unwanted. He wanted Lia. He wanted to feel her lips around him as he fucked her throat, he wanted to tangle his fingers in her hair and hold her into place as the drool dripped out the side of her mouth. He wanted-
Stop it. Not the time.
Bucky cleared his throat, sitting up and readjusting his jeans.
"I'll check on you later." He didn't look back at her, only left as quickly as he was able.
Bucky shut the door behind him, coming face to face with Sam.
"Finally! Wait, I thought you lived in this one? Were you with a girl?" Bucky rolled his eyes once more, not having the energy or the patience for Sam's shit today.
"Shut up." Bucky opened his apartment door, walking in and allowing Sam to come in after him.
"We have a situation, I need your help." Bucky pressed his lips together, waiting for Sam to tell him what exactly this was about. "They gave Steve's shield to someone. John Walker."
Bucky tensed, his whole body feeling as if he was on fire. Steve's shield was given away? As in, the only thing he had left from his best friend?
"You better explain. And quickly."
