It sounded creepy but he watched her while she slept. The way her lips were slightly parted and every so often her eyelids fluttered. She barely moved in her sleep. The peace that came over her when she was asleep was something that Bucky had longed for since before the war.

He never liked to think much about what life was like before he became Sargent James Barnes of the 107th but when he did it hurt his heart. Time before the war was so simple, sort of like now but even simpler. Now, everyone was weird. Online dating was weird, phones were weird and most importantly the people were weird. Everyone was nasty to each other, he had no doubt that if there was a war now it would be over something silly like someone unfollowing someone on instagram. That was the world now. He wished he could take Lia back to before the war. He'd take her out dancing and to little diners. He'd hold her hand and within a few months they'd be married. They'd have a few children and he knew she'd be an amazing mother.

Life wasn't like that now. People just fucked with no feelings attached, no respect for how the other feels. He didn't want to be that way with Lia, he knew he had had sex with her but he just needed to feel something. That's how he hid the pain back then. Whenever Steve got sick he'd go out and have sex, forget about how his best friend could die any moment. Then he'd leave, forget about them and go back to Steve. He knew it was wrong but it didn't stop him regardless.

With Lia it wasn't like that, he didn't want to leave her high and dry. In fact, it was quite the opposite he wanted to hold onto her for as long as he was able. He barely knew her, for all he knew she was involved with the wrong crowd.

No. Not his little Lia. She was too perfect. His right hand stroked over her hair softly, careful not to wake the sleeping beauty.

God, he could stay here forever. Would it be wrong to drag her into his shit?

She was more than aware of it though. She wouldn't have gotten involved if it bothered her. What would Steve tell him to do? Probably to get over himself. He needs to get out of his own head and she was the perfect distraction.
