September 1962

"CLAY DRIVE ME TO CARA'S HOUSE!"

"Drista, who's Cara?"

The girl rolled her eyes and aggressively opened the front door, "My tutor you dumbass."

Clay watched his sister walk over to his new car and chuckled before running to the drivers seat and getting in. As he was now sixteen, he was able to drive...and since he was able to drive, Drista had been using him to her advantage.

"Okay, tell me where she lives."

"Oh, she lives in the same street as your friend Ant." Drista said and put her feet up on the dashboard.

"Oi!" Clay scolded and slapped his sister's ankles, "Put your feet down!"

The girl rolled her eyes and huffed, "What's up your ass?" She turned to face him, "Has Emilia not given you enough attention?"

Clay scoffed, "Shut up, she had to take Henry to the doctors today." He paused, "Drista, why don't you like her?"

The girl shrugged, "I don't know...turn in here," She said and pointed.

"I know where I'm going." Clay snapped and turned left, "Okay, but seriously why don't you like Emilia? She hasn't done anything to you."

"I don't have to like everyone." Drista deadpanned, "I know you're in love with her and our family adores her...but I don't buy it."

"Don't buy what?"

"She seems nice and everything, but I just feel like she's trying too hard."

Clay frowned, "What?"

"I don't know, I think she's trying too hard to be with you when you couldn't really care less-,"

"Hey! What the fuck are you talking about?" Clay asked angrily. He felt like she was seeing right through him, "Who said I don't care about her?"

Drista hummed, "You never said it, but I can see it." She held onto her bag tighter, "She's a pretty girl Clay, but let's be real, you're not interested in her."

The boy avoided eye contact and pulled into the street, "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Sure you don't." She pointed to a house, "Number twelve."

Clay drove into the driveway of the house and parked the car. He looked at his sister and thought about what she said.

"Okay, I'll be going now-,"

"Wait." Clay said and reached forward to grab Drista's wrist, "Am I really that obvious?"

The girl smirked, "So I am right?" She shook his grip off her and opened the door, "It's probably not obvious to her, or our family, but it is to me. I've only seen you all lovey dovey with one person...and I think you know who I'm talking about."

Clay froze as he watched his sister give him a sly smile. He leaned back in his seat, "I-I don't know who you're talking about-,"

"Clay, I'm not an idiot. He would come over to our house everyday for like four years straight...and then he just suddenly stopped?" Drista hopped out of the car and turned around, "I don't know what happened, but I do know that you liked him - actually liked him." She put her backpack on properly, "And don't deny it, I would sit outside your room and hear you talk to him on your stupid walkie talkies. I'm not as dumb as you think."

He watched in shock as she closed the door and skipped to the front of the house. She waved when Cara opened the door with a little smirk and shut it behind her.
