July 1988

"Yeah, I'm seven months along." Cecile smiled and caressed her bump, "We don't know the gender yet, but I'm hoping it's a girl."

"Well I want a boy." George chimed in and looked at his wife, "But, I'm sure whatever it is, we will love it endlessly."

Their friends smiled in adoration and congratulated the couple, gushing over how excited they were for them.

"Why did they have to advertise their baby to everyone? It's the Fourth of July party for fucks sake-,"

"Why are you so mad dude?" Ant chuckled and looked over to the couple, "They're just happy."

"I can tell." Clay mumbled and glared at them.

However, he averted his eyes when he realised George was looking back at him. Grabbing the nearest drink, he chugged it and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

"Clay!" Major Eret smiled eagerly and put his hand on the blonde's shoulder, "How have you been?"

The blonde smiled politely and greeted the Major, "Hi Mayor Eret, I've been well." He paused, "How about you?"

"Oh I'm doing splendid." The Mayor laughed and looked around, "Another year of Independence for our country, it's such a wonderful thing to think about." He hummed, "Just like some news I was just informed of."

"What was that?" Clay asked, the fake smile still plastered on his face.

Mayor Eret smiled widely and turned around, "Why, the very first child of the Davidsons of course. New citizens of our town are always welcome." He laughed, "But seriously, I am very happy for them. I remember when George was younger...," He paused, "Actually, I remember you and him being very close when you were younger."

Clay's face dropped and he cleared his throat, "Oh r-really? I, um, don't remember."

"Oh really? That's a shame." Mayor Eret said with a sad smile, "I remember you two running off with your friends, it made me happy knowing the kids of the town were very close."

"Yeah...,"

The Mayor cleared his throat, "It's no matter though. I'm sure those memories are still with you but just stored at the very back of your mind."

The blond laughed weakly, his face dropping. Of course he hadn't forgotten about those memories, they were one of the best times of his whole life. It would be painful if he were to lose them, those memories were the only things left he had of George.

"It probably is."

"So Clay...when are you having a child?"

Clay's eye widened and he laughed nervously, "W-what? Child?" He shook his head, "N-no, none anytime soon."

"Oh why not? I know you would make an excellent Dad."

"Oh thank you Mayor...but I just don't think I'm ready."

"Why's that-,"

"Hi Mayor Eret."

The two men stopped talking and looked at the person who interrupted their conversation.

George stood in front of them, beer in hand. He smiled weakly at the both of them, scratching the back of his neck as their attention was now on him, "Hey."

"Why hello George, we were just talking about you." Mayor Eret smiled and greeted the brunette.

Clay gritted his teeth and looked away, getting a very strong feeling of annoyance erupt in his stomach. He tried to calm down as they talked, thinking of a way to escape.
