the woods

The school day went by like it was nothing. Just some classes and the rest of lunch. I say goodbye to my sister, and I start to make my way to the forest behind the school. I take my Walkman out of my pocket, and I start to listen to some music while making my journey into the forest.

I listen to some Metallica and just keep walking until I find an old wooden table with benches attached. I take my Walkman off, and I look around to see if anybody is there. I hear a noise from ahead that sounded like a human, so I start to walk backwards so nothing could jump out. I keep walking until I hit something. I gasp and turn around quickly to see Eddie.

"Woah! Hey, sorry. Didn't mean to scare you."

I stare at him confused and still kind of scared.

"You, okay?"

I nod and I catch my breath.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I laugh a little to ease the tension.

We sit down and he puts a metal lunch box on the table and opens it. It's just bags of weed, a few papers and a lighter.

"Do you want to buy anything while we are here?"

I shake my head and I look at the box. I have never done drugs and i have no money. I start to zone out while looking at the box of weed. I start thinking about what Chrissy said with her awake nightmare, maybe the weed would help her calm down.

"Hey, uh, if you want to be alone, I can just leave."

I snap out of it, and I look at Eddie quickly.

"No, sorry. Do you ever feel like, you're losing your mind?"

He looks at me and smiles a little, "you know, on a daily basis."

we laugh for a second and he sighs, "you know this isn't the first time we've hung out."

I look at Eddie confused, and I grip the bench i am on. Should i tell him?

"You don't remember?"

I shake my head and I apologize for not remembering Eddie, even though I do remember us together. I jump a little once he pretends to get shot in the heart and falls backwards. I laugh a little as he gets up.

"It's fine, (Y/n) I wouldn't remember me either!"

I laugh as he swats the leaves out of his hair.

"Middle school talent show. You and your sister were doing this cheer thing," he starts to walk back and forth while pretending to wave pom-poms in the air, "and I was with my band."

As soon as he brings up his band my eyes shoot wide open, "Corroded Coffin! Oh my god! Of course! With a name like that, how could I forget?"

I start to think as i look at Eddie, "do you remember that time in the summer going into eighth grade? I was in the mall with my sister and some of my old friends and i went into that store that you were in?"

He smiles and nods, "i'm so surprised you remember that."

"that was the day i got my first guitar! how could i forget that? that day changed my life, i went from preppy cheer to rock and roll junkie."

He laughs while celebrating that I remembered his band and the day i got the guitar, "I don't know (Y/n), you're a freak."

"No, it's just. You looked so," before I could finish my sentence, he does for me.

"Different? Yeah well, uh, my hair was buzzed, and I didn't have these sweet old tatties."

He shows off his tattoos on his chest and I laugh while remembering his band and how he looked in middle school.

"I'll take you one day; we play at this place called the hideout on Tuesdays. We actually get a crowd of about 5 drunks," he smiles, and I can't help but laugh.

"You know, after meeting you again at lunch, you're not what I thought you'd be like."

"Mean and scary?"

I nod and laugh while keeping my place on the bench.

He walks back over and leans across the table, "well I actually thought you'd be kinda mean and scary too."

I smile and gasp, "me?"

"Yeah terrifying," he sits back down and closes his box while smiling at me, "how about later after DnD, I take you back to my place?"

I smile and nod, "okay Eddie, that sounds nice."

We sit in a silence for another moment, it wasn't awkward. It was more of a comfortable and safe silence. I get up and he looks at me confused.

"I can't believe you thought i would be mean and scary! I mean me? Mean and scary," i tell him as he also gets up.

"Well yeah! You have that amazing punk rock look and i always wanted to talk to you but you were listening to your music."

I roll my eyes playfully as we both start to walk out of the woods together.

"You have the hot, cool, punk look Eddie. I saw you a couple of times and honestly, I did not recognize you at all. I just thought you were some mean kid that came out of the ground. i was scared of you!"

He smiles and laughs while nudging my shoulder, "well now you know, Miss, Cunningham, now you know."
