I watch from behind the counter as Leslie serves Jonas.
As soon as I see him, I know that I can't be the one who serves him. It's just an unnecessary interaction that doesn't need to happen, especially when I'm trying to cut them down to a minimum.
I turn and grab a cloth from the the side of the sink, wiping the counters down, getting rid of all the rubbish and tidying the cups and packets away.
The hustle and bustle will start to die down now, since the peak time after school is around 4pm ish and I usually start my shift at 5.
I'm glad, but also wish I could have the busy atmosphere around me to keep my mind off of 'things'.
There's still a few people in the Cafe who are drinking and typing away on their laptops, catching up on last minute work and assignments.
As I'm reaching to put the coffee cans away on the shelf, I hear the bells above the doors chime, signalling that someone has entered the shop.
I turn around, ready to serve the customers, and am met with a pair of deep brown eyes. His hair is dishevelled on top of his hair and he has a smirk resting on his face. He's cute, and I can't help but think that if Lily was here, she would wiggle her eyebrows at me and have her own grin on her face.
"What can I get for you today?" I ask him, smiling as I stare into his eyes. They're nothing like Jonas'. In fact, they're the complete opposite of his. This boy in front of me has chocolate eyes with tiny bits of gold flecks in them from the golden hour sun coming in through the shop windows. They're really pretty, but I can get lost in Jonas'. His are more intense and captivating, whereas these give off a light and playful nature.
Wait, why am I suddenly giving a spoken essay on the differences between Jonas' eyes and this stranger.
I'm actually driving around the bend.
"Hm, a black coffee please." The mystery boy says. His voice is fairly loud and I'm surprised again at how different it is from Jonas'.
I know which one I prefer.
I can't help my eyes from drifting towards where Jonas is sitting. Leslie is still standing next to him and I zone in on her hand placement. They're on his fucking arm. I can feel heat creep up inside of me as I watch them, Jonas occasionally smiling at something Leslie says and I can't help but feel a tad bit-
No I'm not jealous. Why would I be. Hell, she's probably having a nice conversation with him. Plus, it's not like he's mine or anything.
Remembering the mystery guy, I turn back towards him, and see him watching me as I take in the scene. Shit.
I clear my throat and smile at him, acknowledging his order while I turn around to make him his coffee.
My mind is buzzing from what I just saw. Maybe everything that Jonas said to me was just a joke or a prank or a dare. He was happily flirting back with Leslie, so he probably just made that shit up to mess with me.
Wow.
Finishing up with the coffee, I walk around the counter to where mystery guy has taken a seat, and unfortunately for me, he's picked the table closest to Jonas. I have to force my eyes not to travel to where he sits as I walk past his table.
"Here you go, enjoy." I say to mystery guy as I place his drink down, careful not to spill it.
"Thanks...Eliza?" He looks down at my name badge that sits on my apron, and I nod my head smiling.
"That's me." I reply.
"I'm Leo." He replies. Nice.
Cute name to be honest.
