-Geno's POV-
"So...you're finally here." I say, standing inside the corridor while staring at the human...no...whatever they are. The thing stays silent, as usual, holding only a knife in hand. I sigh, deciding against doing my usual dialogue. "...Let's just get to the point."
I snap my fingers. The area around us darkens as the thing's soul leaves its body. Then, I start my usual routine for this battle. At this point, that thing has memorized all my move sets. It's just toying with me. We battle for what feels like hours, each step it takes getting closer and closer to me. I pant in exhaustion, overusing my magic once again.
I find myself drifting into slumber in the middle of the battle, as usual. At this point, I'm just waiting for the thing to slash me once more. I open my eye to dodge the attack just once, knowing full well another is coming on its way. I can feel the burning sensation of my bones as they're broken apart from that kid's dusty blade. I tumble backwards, falling onto the floor of the corridor.
I think to myself as my body instinctively does my dialogue after every defeat, 'when will this brat finally give up?' When I can finally rest. I watch as the thing walks away from my purview, once again, the victor. I close my eyes, excepting to dust soon.
"...Finally." I can hear a familiar voice sound inside my head. I open my eyes and find myself standing inside darkness. "Can you hear me?" I turn to look and see Nightmare standing there.
"...Nightmare? What are you doing here? And...where are we?" I ask, curiously. The pain from the slash is gone.
"We're inside your dreams, Geno."
"...What?!" I shout, surprised. Wait, then doesn't that mean I was only dreaming about having that fight with the kid?
"I was trying to hone into Error's dream, but something was blocking my magic. Do doubt this has something to do with that squid." Nightmare mumbles in exasperation.
"So...what are you doing here instead?" I ask.
"I was hoping to find where you guys are now. That way, I can bring you back to base."
"Oh, well...Did you find us? Cause I am just as clueless as you are to where Error and I are. All I know is that this is the Star Sans' base. And I had just joined their team."
"...What?" Nightmare glares at me, wanting me to clarify that statement. I shake in fear from his aura he's emitting.
"U-um, y-you see, E-Error t-thought it w-would be a g-good idea f-for someone in our group to s-spy on Ink's team! I just so happened to a-agree!"
Nightmare's aura dies down somewhat. But it's still pressuring me a bit. "I see..." Nightmare begins to walk around in the darkness. Whatever he sees, I am unable to view it myself. He scratches his chin with a thoughtful look. His one eye turns to look at me and grins. "Here's a better option, I'll show you how to make portals properly."
"Really? I thought Error was supposed to teach me that."
"She was, but as you can clearly see...that is out of the option. Knowing that squid, he's going to be monitoring Error 24/7. And besides..."
The area around us shifts to that of a small hill with an apple tree bearing gold and black apples. I look around in confusion to why my dreamscape changed to here. Maybe Nightmare is controlling the environment?
"...That should do it. He's less likely to notice me messing with your dreams if some sense of 'positivity' is showing. Unlike my brother, I can withstand it for a longer time." Nightmare grumbles. "Anyways, let's begin your lesson." A board pops in front of me along with some chalk. I grab them instinctively, reminding me of my time with Gaster.
"Lesson one, how to get from point A to point B without getting your head stuck inside a wall. Listen carefully."
For some reason, I feel like that has happened at least once to him...
"When envisioning your portal, try to imagine a familiar-looking environment. One with as few monsters nearby as possible. When you have a clear idea in your head, think of yourself opening a door. That should create the portal in front of you."
"But what if I want to go somewhere I've never seen before?" I ask, jotting down notes. I just realized that everything I'm writing is going to disappear once I wake up.
"Lesson two, how to go into new aus you've never seen yourself. This should come easy to you since you yourself are a Glitch. If you were one of my subordinates, then it's mostly based on determination. And knowing the au's name beforehand."
"Only the name?" I ask.
"Yes. I had to show my gang the names of the au they reside in. All they do now is think of their au and poof, the portal opens for them. Or when going into an au I assigned for them bearing only the name. Keep in mind that Squid made many copies, so don't get the numbers mixed up."
"Oh, okay."
"Since you're a Glitch, I can skip that step. You don't need to know the au's name, just think of a book with the word Au scribbled onto it."
Once he said that, a coverless book holding many pages pops up in front of me. Nightmare looks at it, excepting it.
"See, that wasn't so hard. But keep in mind that this is a dream, the book won't actually appear in front of you when you wake up."
"Ah..." I stare at the book, wondering what this has to do with being able to make portals.
"Think of something you feel you need right this moment. For example, the base. The book will flip to what it believes is the desired au with that item. It doesn't work for targeting beings though. So, keep that in mind."
I nod in understanding...Why do I feel like something is happening now?
"...But that's only the easy stuff. Once we get you both to base, Error will teach you how to make random portals without a desired destination. Sort of panic portals really. Kind of how I met her for the first time in the anti-void. Only difference was I targeted her negativity."
The area around us begins to wave, as if we're underneath water. I look around with concern as Nightmare slowly starts to dissipate. "What's happening?!"
"Looks like my guys found the base with that portal you opened up. You're waking up from the commotion." Nightmare explains with a sigh.
"I did?!"
"Yes. See you soon." He says as I black out.
