Kaylen's POV:

I came home in a happy mood. I finally had a date! Nathan did ask me out. I was on cloud nine. All the three of us had got our dates, and now we were simply counting the number of days left for the dance. Our costumes were ready. Emma and Rachel had already sent their pictures to me in their costumes. Rachel looked like Merida to perfection. But Emma was the prettiest of us three. She had decided to go as Annabeth from Percy Jackson series.  She looked perfect. I decided to try my costume on at night.

At the dinner table, I happily announced the news to my parents.

"Daddy! I got a date to the dance. Finally. I and Emma were asked out today at the same time. And guess who asked Emma out. It was Robert. The guy who lives in Aunt Alice's neighbourhood. I Nathan asked me to be his date. I am so happy!"

Now, I must mention that my father is sometimes absent minded when he is busy at work, which he had been a lot lately. So I wasn't really surprised when he looked up and asked, "What dance?" "The Halloween Dance Dad. It is held every year in our high school. I had already told you about it. Mom even had to shut me up because I was going to hyper about it." I replied. My dad still looked blanked. But I was then faced with a volley of questions.

"Who are you going with?" "I just told you Dad, Nathan." "How is he as a person?" "He is very sweet. And stop asking me such questions." "Will there be adult supervision? And absolutely no drinks" "Of course. It is a high school party Dad. Gosh!" "And Catherine" he asked turning towards my mom, "you knew about this?" My Mother smiled as she patted my head. "Of course I knew dear. She has been going on about this since the beginning of October." I grinned at my parents and remembered my costume. "Well Mom, Dad, please wait here. I want to show you my costume now."

I ran upstairs and wore my costume and quickly made my hair into two loose plaits, just like Anna. I rushed downstairs to show off my handiwork to my parents.

"Oh my goodness sweetie! You look amazing. This is beautiful. You sure are going to win Nathan over. I am so proud of you." My mother gushed around me as I turned a bright shade of pink. My dad also admired the costume. I then turned to my 10 year old brother Austin who was busy playing on his I-pod. "So what do you think baby bro? How do I look?" Without even looking up, he replied, "Fat." And there began the Tom and Jerry chase around the living room. I caught him and began to tickle him. "Now tell me how I look before I tickle you into oblivion." I giggled into his squirming form. "You – aaahhh! Look beautiful sis! Now stop tickling me!" He implored to me with his puppy eyes. I kissed his cheek and set him down and went to keep my costume away.

The dance was now only two days away. My excitement was paramount. We all had discussed our costumes. Nathan would not tell us his though, he wanted to keep it a secret. I could not wait for this dance. I was sitting in our homeroom staring out of the windows imagining the dance night when Emma bounded in bubbling with excited news.
