Christmas was nearing. School had already broken up for the festive season. The whole town looked beautiful. The trees were ablaze with multi-coloured lights, casting colourful shadows on the whit snow below. The trees looked like colourful cotton candy. Every house was lit up beautifully. Ornaments were displayed in the front yard. This year, Austin and I had decided to decorate the whole house and Christmas tree by ourselves. Mom and Dad had thankfully agreed. Our Christmas tree had come home just last night and I was looking forward to decorating it.
I was in my room, getting ready to go Christmas shopping. I had decided to go with Rachel. Now, while that was a good idea, I would be in a dilemma of what to get her. I was going through my mental list of people while pulling up jeans and a woollen red sweater. I ran downstairs and bumped into Mom on my way out.
"Slowly my dear. You have just got up from an illness. Don't forget your coat and hat. Be safe" my mom called out to me, as I left. I hollered back, "I'll be safe Mom, don't worry. I love you. Bye."
I gave her a hug and a kiss. I caught the bus to the nearest mall and saw Rachel standing there, on time for a change. She began laughing, mostly at my expression. "I can be on time too you know. So close your mouth and come on. We need to get shopping."
For the next three hours, Rachel and I were roaming each and every shop in the mall, searching for gifts. I had got a mug saying 'Merry Christmas to the best dad ever' for my dad, a beautiful apron embroidered with mistletoes and hearts, candy canes, ornaments and every Christmas related things you could think off and the newest video game for Austin. That money came from my savings. But since I was used to saving every penny I could, it wasn't much of a problem. Mom was adamant on funding the gifts I would give to my friends. I got a set of earrings and a matching rings for both Emma and Rose, a watch for Dylan and a book for Nathan. I was searching for something for Ashley when I came across a poster of Game of Thrones. It was done. I knew that she always wanted it and I got it surprisingly cheap. Now the only people left were Robert, Rachel and Jonathan. I decided to get a wallet for Rob and I found the perfect gift for Rachel.
It was a locket in the shape of a heart with two windows, just big enough for a picture of the two of us. It would cost me a fortune but Rachel was worth it. Plus I had seen her ogling that necklace a few hours ago.
I was moving past the photo frames section when one frame caught my eye. It was a friendship frame. It was of a mahogany colour with the words FriendsForever swirling around it like a ribbon. The actual place to put a picture was small, but the frame had random friendship quotes written across it. At the bottom was a quote written in bold letters, which was so true to the situation, I simply bought it without a second thought.
'Though we are miles apart, you, dear friend shall forever be close to my heart.'
