"Olivia, did you hear me?" Randy's voice echos past my dizzy head as I stand in the doorway. I really don't know how to react to this. Should I be scared? Will he even try to contact us at all?
"Yes, I heard you," I tell her with a nod. She sighs and steps towards me, giving me a hug. How am I supposed to be reacting right now? "What- uh, what does this mean now?"
"I don't know, but we will not allow him to come near you," Austin speaks up from behind me. I turn around to see his rage-filled eyes as he is lost in his own place of thought. I can tell he's trying not to react the way he wants to in order to keep me calm. "I will kill the son of a bitch if he even tries."
"Okay, okay," I say, walking back into the guest room, sitting on the messy bed. "Just because he's out doesn't mean anything, right? He probably has forgotten all about us."
"Babe, I'm sorry but no," Randy shakes her head at me and I sigh. I know. I know there's no way he's forgotten anything that's happened. "I think you two should talk about this. I'm just out here if you need me."
Randy closes the door as memories of Lenny's face flood my brain. From when he cornered me at the party; how his eyes somehow got darker than usual and how his eyebrows furrowed with intent to harm. It hasn't left my mind, but at least I've been able to keep it at the back of it.
"Honey, we will keep him far from you. Don't worry about that," Austin tells me as I sit down on the bad, folding my arms across my torso. I don't look at him, or even reply, but he comes to sit down beside me, placing a hand on my thigh. "You're safe."
"Yeah, you're right," I nod, eventually looking at Austin and putting on my best smile. I can't pretend I'm not worried. Who wouldn't be? "I just don't understand how he got out."
"Because our justice system is fucked, that's how," Austin tells me, pushing my hair out of my face. "Are you tired, pretty girl?"
"Not really," I sigh, leaning onto Austin's shoulder. "Are you?"
"No," he chuckles, pulling me closer to him and squeezing me against him. "Not until you are."
I laugh at him and stand up, walking over to the other side of the bed. I pull the covers back and lay down in the sheets, gesturing for Austin to do the same. He smiles and does the same as I, letting the covers fall over both of us. He pulls me close to him and puts his arm under me. He lifts my chin up, planting a soft kiss on my lips.
"So have we thought about any baby names?" Austin says lightheartedly as he plays with my hair, trying to get my mind off of the subject.
"Well, no," I laugh quietly at him, running my fingers up and down his arm. "Didn't really think I'd ever get this far."
"Well we better get on it, huh mama?" he chuckles as he kisses the top of my head. Mama. That's me. I smile as I think about the fact that this is something we really have to talk about now. This is reality. It's actually happening.
Fuck Lenny.
He cannot take away my happiness anymore.
