Chapter Seven:

The next morning, Pippin and Penny awoke to a golden sunrise.

The sky was blue, the trees had perfect green leaves, and colorful birds flew about.

Pippin wanted nothing more than to sit by the fountain holding Penny forever, but she had things to do.

Penny stretched and hopped up pulling Pippin with her.

She smiled that smile of hers and said, "Tonight, same place?"

"Yes," Pippin managed to say without blushing as deeply this time.

Little did he know, there would be no tonight in Rivendell again for he would be somewhere else. (Still with Penny though!)

The day passed slowly and Pippin saw little of Penny because she was at a secret council with Frodo (who was now well and healthy from elvish care) and Gandalf.

Merry and Pippin decided to go see what was so special about this meeting.

On the way, they met Sam who was searching for the same thing. Together, they eventually found it and hid just out of sight.

Elrond sat at the head if the group with two elves on each side if him.

The circle if people ranged from dwarfs to men to elves to the two hobbits.

A pedestal stood in the very center of the group and on that, a small, gold ring.

"Is that what Frodo was talking about with Gandalf?" whispered Pippin to Merry.

"Yes, now shush," said Merry.

A man with dirty blonde hair stood up and said directly to Lord Elrond,

"One does not simply walk into Mordor, not with many, many men would this be possible!"

Aragorn stood up as well and spoke something in elvish to the group.

An elf with long white-blonde hair and a bow/arrow quiver strapped to his back stood up and said something as well, but Aragorn told him to sit down.

"We must destroy it," said Elrond calmly.

"Then what are we waiting for?!" replied a short, round dwarf with a red/brown hair. He stood up and walked to the Ring with his axe and swung.

The axe shattered and the dwarf fell back, but Pippin noticed Frodo had flinched as if he were hit.

Penny remained calm, but still looked worried.

The Ring remained in one piece.

Soon, everyone was talking and arguing who should take the Ring to dispose of it.

"I will take it! I will take the ring to Mordor!" Frodo called above the din.

"As will I," Penny said standing suddenly next to Frodo.

Pippin froze in his place; did she just volunteer?! With Frodo?! Did she just?!

Gandalf's face fell as he looked at the two hobbits standing tall next to him.

"If by my life, or death, I can protect you, I will," Aragorn said kneeling in front of them.

"You have my sword," Boromir said walking over to join the small group.

"And my bow," the fair elf said standing by.

"And my axe," the dearly growled waddling over as well.

Merry, Pippin, and Sam couldn't take hiding anymore.

"Oi! Mr. Frodo isn't going anywhere without his gardener!" Sam cried running out to Frodo.

"Here! Wait!" Merry and Pippin fled out from their hiding place. "We're going to. You'd have to tie us up in a sack and send us back home."

"After all, you need people of this intelligence on this sort of mission...quest...thing..."

"Well that rules out you Pip," Merry whispered. Pippin shrugged and caught Penny's eye. She raised an eyebrow and offered a small chuckle.

No one else seemed willing to put their lives at stake for this so Lord Elrond stood up and opened his hands to them.

"Very well, you shall be the Fellowship of the Ring," he said ominously.

"Right, where are we going?" Pippin asked earning a glare here and the 'Didn't you pay attention at all' look from just about everyone in the council.

Gandalf shook his head and the group began leaving Rivendell towards their next destination.

"Gandalf, Mordor, is it left or right?" Frodo asked.

"Left, Frodo."
