April was definitely shocked when the call came in. Tristan Kane was stopping over at her parents place for the night before continuing his trip across the state. The call was all sudden, one moment she was seated searching up some files on her laptop, the next minute Tristan was calling to drop the news.
Now the problem wasn't that he had called on such short notice, it was simply because this was the boyfriend no one knew about. They had been dating for two years and she'd never for once brought up the topic of her having her first boyfriend! This was something every parent wanted to be there for, or at least some. With Tristan coming over for the night, it would raise a lot of drama and questions, something she feared but looking at the way things were now, it was unavoidable.
The diamond stoned ring on her hand spoke a lot about her relationship. It wasn't a ring she wore all the time so it was easy for her parents or friends to ever notice and most especially she wasn't engaged. Tristan had gone down on one knee while they were on a date and had given her a promise ring, a very beautiful one at that. When she returned home for the holidays, she'd taken off the ring and slipped it into her suitcase but now that he was coming back, she had to wear it, irrespective of what her family would say.
Tristan and April had met two years ago at a skating rink in Brooklyn. She'd gone with her best friend Trixie and there Tristan was gracefully gliding against the smooth ice, swerving past people with so much elegance, it intrigued April. Just when she was about to look away, their eyes met and there was a sudden explosion in her stomach. It was safe to say that that was the beginning of their story.
With time she'd gotten to find out that he worked in an Insurance company somewhere in Wall Street and he used to play college football back in the day. She was intrigued but she wasn't head over heels. On the other hand, Tristan seemed to be falling pretty fast, loving everything about her, even her flaws. In his own words, she was unique and even though she never understood what made her so unique, she simply went with the flow.
Running a hand over her face wearily, she leans back into her seat in the kitchen, overlooking the front porch, right in time to see a white Mercedes Benz pull up in front of the house. Her heart rate quickened instantly. She knew his car anywhere.
She was panicking.
Shutting her laptop, she rushes to the front door, earning a look from Cherry who was seated in the living room tapping away on her phone. Using her palm, she brushes down her hair and tries to smoothen out her sweater. Sucking in a deep breath, she throws the door open, shattering a small picture frame of their first puppy and she winces. Evelyn was definitely not going to be happy about that, but who kept a frame behind the door?
"Umm... April are you okay?" Cherry asks quizzically, a frown stretched out across her forehead. Before a response could even be given, Tristan appears at the front door dressed in his work clothes and a large black coat, his million dollar smile plastered on his lips and a white suitcase in the other hand.
Cherry stares between the two in confusion, her attention mostly pinned on the good looking stranger. April tries to mirror his smile as she draws in for a hug. He wraps his arms around her, pulling her flush against his chest. The strangers eyes travel to Cherry who's eyeing them from across the living room in a quizzical manner.
Pulling away, he places a kiss to April's forehead before capturing her lips in a warm but short lived kiss which takes both April and Cherry by surprise. "Hey baby, I've missed you so much, " he says, placing another kiss to her temple and April flashes him a smile she hoped didn't appear too forced.
