"Oh my gosh, it would be amazing if you stopped by to join us.You know some people still remember you," Christine smiles warmly, placing the last of the empty plates into the dishwasher. "I'll remember to do just that," April replies right before Colt strolls into the kitchen.
Dinner with the Rivers family seemed to be going better than April had expected. At first when Evelyn had informed her, her first line of action was to say no. She didn't want to come. Obviously most of the discussion would be about her, as they'd all have something to say about it and Christine had always been the more talkative, putting Evelyn at second place. She could never stop talking and that was April's fear. Thankfully, dinner had rolled over to an end and since the storm outside had picked up a bit, they'd decided to stay back for a while. Ben, Evelyn, Christine and David were currently seated in the back patio encircled by a glass cage which managed to keep the snow out and the cold too, thanks to the heater that had been installed.
Cherry was busy binge watching some shows on the T.V downstairs, leaving Colt and April to themselves down in the game room.
"You still have all these video games? " she asks, stifling a laugh as she picked up the controllers placed on the floor. "It's been a while since I came down here, I'm evening surprised my mum hasn't thrown them away yet. Remember when she used to threaten me about how much I used to play them?" he chuckles , picking up the other controllers. "Yeah and I'd always back her up," April chuckles in response.
"That wasn't fair actually. Two against one? Really"
"Hey, it's not my fault she was right. You were obsessed with them and whenever I'd come over so we can hang out, you were always on it, " she replies, playfully rolling her eyes. "At least I always won, " he replies confidently, lifting his nose up in the air causing April to burst into laughter.
Silence looms between them for a second before Colt sighs, running a hand through his hair. "I'm sorry for everything that happened before we went separate ways. The whole Pat-"
"It's fine. I guess I'm over that. Maybe our parents were actually right when they said we were just over exaggerating," she replies, looking up to meet his stare. More silence looms between them until April breaks it, bringing up a new topic.
"So how've you been since the whole thing? I mean everyone's been talking about my return, I barely get to know what's happening in someone else's life," she states, settling down on a bean bag and tapping the one next to her. He smirks and falls in next to her.
The wind howls loudly outside, gaining both their attention as something cracks under the pressure. "Are you sure you guys are still gonna head home tonight?" he chuckles, watching the moving wind from across the room. "I don't really know yet," she hums in response, also watching the wind. "Well, if you guys don't, my room's always open to you," he winks .
"What about Cherry?" April teases and he scowls. "Nope. There's no way she's staying in my room. Did you know she can't share a space with someone?" he retorts, shuddering at a thought that leaves April curious. "I didn't know you guys shared a bed ." Curiosity had gotten the best of her at this point.
"Yeah, that was last year Christmas. She ended up skiing on a frozen lake and a part of it gave way. She was lucky she survived it, most people would have gotten pneumonia instantly, " he replies and April's brows creases together, her lips pressed into a thin line.
"Oh and by the way, work has been great... A bit stressful but it's been fine I guess," he sighs, leaning his head back on the white painted walls. "You still work at the law firm?" she asks, turning to face him, an amused look on her face. "I know I said I was going to study law but I changed to accounting after high school, " he replies.
