Chapter 12
AYODEJI POV
It was Saturday night, I was sitting at the club like a loser well waiting for my guys to come and talk about how disappointed they are in me. I couldn’t lie that I slept with the girl, they’ll find out somehow.
Five minutes later, they came into the club and sat at our table.“My guy, Ayo” Frank came in hailing me.
“The boss, how far?” Chidera joined him.
“What’s up with the deal?” Kunle jumped straight to the point.
“I’ll give you people the sixty thousand”
“So you didn’t sleep with her?” Kunle asked.
They were all quiet then they burst out laughing.
“Can you guys remember when he said ‘I always get what I want'? I’m guessing he did not want her” Kunle said with a mocking smirk on his face.
“Ayo, Ayo, the ever egotistical Ayo, so where you wan get sixty thousand naira from?” Frank asked.
“It doesn’t matter, I’ll give you guys the money”
“But we want the money now, you will just give each of us 20k each, that’s all” Chidera said.
“Can’t you guys wait small?”
“Guy, you no get work so the only way you fit give us our money na by billing your parents so give us now before it enters voicemail”
“You people should send me your account numbers” I was about to send part of this month’s rent I needed to pay. That was the only large amount of money I could access. They sent me the account numbers and I transferred the money to them.
“I’m sure it’s your school fees, you are sending like this” Kunle said sneering.
“Stop it joor, shey I done send the money, abeg leave me. It done do”
“You are not dumping the girl like that, you must make sure you are the first guy she will sleep with” Frank said.
“But I’ve paid you guys the money, what is it again?”
“Guy chill, just do it for fun. Do it at your own time” Chidera added.I was not in the mood for drinks. My friends were being irrational. The fact that they all knew I didn’t have money but still forced me to give them the money I had crushed me and for the first time in my entire life, I actually thought of getting a job but nope, the thought vanished as it came. I would just tell my parents that we were supposed to pay for something as final year students, they’ll believe or I could even call my big sister.
“Guy, stop frowning joor. Why are you behaving like someone forced you to enter this bet? Nobody forced you so stop frowning abeg” Kunle said.
“I’m leaving. I’m not in the mood today maybe next weekend” I stood up and went back to my apartment.I went to my bathroom to shower and I spent so much time thinking. How did this girl not fall or have I lost my charm?
“Hmm, me Ayodeji” I said to myself. I finished and went to my bedroom and saw my phone ringing. It was my mum calling. Oh God, I knew there was no way she could find out about the rent but why was she calling at this time?
“Hello Mummy, good evening”
“Ayo, your father had an accident. I…I”
“Mummy, how is he?” She was crying. She was scaring me.
“Mummy”
“A..Ayo…I”
“Do know what? First thing on Monday morning, I’m be on my way home”
Why today? God, why are you punishing me like this? I had just sent this money to these guys and I know hospital bills will be outrageous.
“Why, why?” I scowled as I looked down at the phone. Just great.
