Chapter 43

OMOLARA'S POV

Cynthia’s death was still hard for me to digest but Ayo helped me to cheer up, he helped with so many things in the house and even told me not to go to work. I needed to work to take my mind off Cynthia’s death.
Ayo had changed for good, he was so helpful to me. He told me he felt happier now than he ever was. I saw a tiny developing tooth in the lower gum of Eriayomi's mouth. I was so excited that I had to take a picture of her anytime she giggled and it showed. She was almost six months old, she had gained some weight and grew chubby over the months. I stopped carrying her frequently even when she wanted to be carried so bad, that would make her want to crawl.

I couldn’t believe that Ayo wanted to go to church often. He said he wanted to belong to something inspiring.
“Lara, I wanted to have dinner with my parents and your parents” Ayodeji said.
“Hmm, okay. I hope there won’t be any drama” I replied.
“Babe, I’m going with you, that’s what I mean” He said.
“Oh…” I didn’t know what to say.
“I just want to talk to them, I need to. I’ll show them that I’ve changed” I was about to reply when my phone rang. It was Daniel.
“Hey” I said as I answered the call.
“Hi, Lara. How are you?”
“I’m okay, Daniel. How are you?” Ayo looked annoyed when he heard Daniel's name.
“I’m good”
“Lara, I was talking to you” Ayo said interrupting us.
“Ayo, I’m sure this call will not waste time” I replied. Ayo licked his lips and turned to the television. He looked angry, I didn’t want to end the call on Daniel because I might not call him back.
“Daniel, hope there is no problem” I asked Daniel, Ayo stood up and carried Eriayomi to his room.
“No, I just wanted to know how you were doing, it’s been quite some time since we last met and since you have forgotten me, I decided to call. How is Ayo?” Daniel replied.
“Oh, he is fine actually he is great and I have not forgotten you, I can’t”
“He's great?” Daniel asked.
“Yeah, he’s not the Ayo you know” I could hear the happiness in my voice.
“Wow, that’s really a huge thing. I’m happy for you.”
“Thanks. Daniel, I’m sorry but I need to go now” I’m sure Ayo wanted to punch something now.
“Okay, right. It was nice talking to you. Goodnight, Lara”
“Goodnight, Daniel” I replied and ended the call. I went to Ayo's room, he locked the door.

“Ayo, open the door” I knocked and he opened the door. I walked in, Eriayomi was sitting on the bed just beside him.
“Are you done with Daniel?” He asked. I could hear the annoyance in his voice.
“Ayo, it wasn’t important. He just wanted to greet me”
“So, I was talking to you but you preferred to talk about things that are not important with Daniel” He sounded jealous. He was now standing.
“Ayo, are you jealous?” I asked.
“I don’t like that guy and it’s because he likes you” He replied.
“So you are jealous, Ayo. He is my friend that has helped me a lot, if he calls and says he needs help, …”
“You'll run to him” Ayo cut in.
“Ayo” I said in a much calmer voice and drew closer to him “You are the one that gets me, no one else. If I didn’t date him then, will I do that now? It’s just you, okay?”
“Yeah, but he’s a real gentleman and I just don’t want….”
“Babe, nothing will happen” I replied and kissed him. When I stopped, he held my face close to his and kissed me. He kissed my neck but stopped at that.
“Not now” He said and smiled.
“Ayo, we are married. Why are we still waiting?” I asked, I didn’t understand him.
“Lara, the time isn’t now” He replied. What was he even saying?
“Ayo” I sighed, he turned to look at me.
“I love you, baby” He said, kissing me again.
“I love you, too” I replied and left the room.

The next day, we went for dinner at his parent's place. His parents, brother and his sister’s family were there. We just dressed casually for the dinner.
“Thanks for allowing me to have this dinner with you, my beautiful family.” Ayo stood up. “I have been a headache and a pain in the ass to you all. I thought I was enjoying but I wasn’t, little did I know that my actions were affecting everyone who loves me. Sadly, I had to be beaten up to see it but I’m happy I did. I want to sincerely apologize to everyone here” He sighed “I am sorry that you all had to feel so much anger and pain because of me. Thank you for always being the people I could run to for anything, thank you so much” He said and he looked at me. I was so proud of him.
After dinner, his mum hugged him and kissed his forehead. Everyone was happy about Ayo's change. Eriayomi was playing with her cousins while I stood watching Temitope's husband and Ayo talk.
“Thank you. You didn’t have to stay for him but you did. Have you noticed the way he looks at you now?” I turned and saw him staring at me smiling, he sure wasn’t listening to what Temitope's husband was saying “Yes, that’s the look” She whispered in my ear. His eyes were filled with adoration and love, it was beautiful. Dinner went smoothly and we were on our way home in no time.

After dinner with Ayo's family, the next day was dinner with my family. When my mum opened the door, she looked like she wanted to punch him, my dad's jaw twitched when he saw Ayo. I had to beg them to chill.
We sat at the table eating in silence when Ayo cleared his throat.
“Thank you for having me here tonight” He started, everyone looked at him, even Eriayomi who was sitting on Mummy's lap rose her head. “I want to say I’m sorry, I know this is not how you wanted your daughter’s life to be but the mistake I made a year ago was one of the best mistakes I have ever made. I got to know this beautiful woman named Omolara and although I went through a terrible experience to notice her, I got to fall in love with her. So, I also thank you for making me marry this amazing person here. Sir, Ma, you gave me the best gift I have ever had so thank you, thank you very much” He said. My eyes were teary, he looked at me and mouthed ‘I love you'. My parents were too stunned to speak but when we had finished eating, my mum hugged him and my dad shook his hand. My dad and Ayo stood and discussed about God knows what. Dinner was over and we went home.
“And to the beautiful woman right in front of me, thank you for standing by me” He smiled and kissed me, he then kissed Eriayomi and said “Daddy loves you”. I asked him why he didn’t tell his parents about his other child and he said that he wanted to make sure he had the money to take care of the child first before bringing it up.
The past two days were so beautiful, I loved this man so much more than I wanted to admit. I loved him and his imperfections.
