Chapter 19
AYODEJI'S POV
“Omo, we suppose commot today oh” Frank said.
“Tomorrow dey na” I replied, we were all chilling at my a par. It was eight o’clock at night and these guys did not plan on leaving anytime soon.Suddenly, someone was banging on my door. My first thought was that armed robbers had come to my apartment because we didn’t even have a gateman or anyone watching the gate.
“Ayo, should we open the door?” Frank asked. We were all panicking.
“We really have no choice, they’ll break the door down” Chidera had a point. I went to open the door, I was perplexed when I saw Omolara, her mum and her dad at my apartment, she looked like her mum. I knew her parents were strict and all but I didn’t expect this.
“I’m looking for Ayodeji” Her dad said.
“I am Ayodeji”
“Good, get into my car”
“What? Sir…”
“Are you mad?!” He was raising his voice at me.
“I said get into the car, we are going to your parents' house” I didn’t understand what was going on. I tried asking Lara but she ignored me. I got into the car as her dad instructed me and sat in the back seat, Lara sat beside me but she was trembling. Her dad asked me to give him directions to my parents' house which I did. When we reached the house, my mum ran to hug me and ask me about the people I came with.
“Good evening ma, I know it is late but we want to see you and your husband”
“What happened?”
“Please can we see your husband?” Lara's dad sounded calm and collected but he wasn’t as collected as he looked. Ayo, what did you do now?
“Good evening sir” Her parents greeted my dad.
“Good evening, please who are you?”
“Sir and ma, I’ll go straight to the point. Your son, Ayodeji impregnated my daughter”
“What?” My parents and I said at the same time.
“No, no…it's not true”
“So you are saying that the doctor that did the test is lying? He asked me” God, please let this not be true.
“What if he’s not the one?” My mum asked.
“Ayodeji, did you sleep with my daughter one month ago?” I knew that if I lied, somehow they would find out.
“Yes I did”
“Well, my daughter is exactly one month pregnant and she says you are the only person that has slept with her”
“Sir, I am deeply sorry for this” my dad apologized. He was still in a wheelchair, this was too much for him. I saw a teardrop falling from his eyes.
“Sorry will not do anything, I’m not going to have a single mother in my house. The embarrassment will be too much for me” Her dad said while her mum had been quiet throughout the night but her eyes were red.
“Sir please what do you want? We’ll do anything to make things right” My mum said.
“They'll have to get married”
“No!” I screamed, Lara was crying profusely. My mum slapped me so hard that I fell. I knelt and stayed like that.
“No what? If you were good enough to sleep with her, you’ll be good enough to marry her!” My mum shouted at the top of her voice.
“Sir please” I begged but he was not listening to me. How could I have done this to myself?
“Sir, please is there not another way to fix this?” My dad as
“It is my daughter you are talking about. The other way is abortion and I’m not going to let my daughter do that”
“Okay, they’ll get married” Dad finally said. Those words broke my heart into so many pieces. I had no say in this decision making and it hurt so much.Tears poured down my eyes. My mum and Lara's mum didn’t seem too excited about the news but they couldn’t say anything. This was all my fault, all because of a stupid bet that I didn’t even win.
“The wedding is in two weeks” Her dad concluded. Hey God, this man was not one to back down and it scared me. Ayo, this time you messed up real bad.
