Chapter 24
OMOLARA'S POV
I didn’t like that I had to point a knife at Ayodeji before he would be able to think of his child. The incident happened yesterday and since then, he had been avoiding me. I really scared him, I just wanted him to put this child first. She was my main priority.
I was bored and exhausted. Cleaning after Eriayomi and any mess she made was really a big job. The fact that she always found ways to create a mess amazed me. She was sleeping finally giving me time to rest. I wanted to talk to someone. My friends were doing their youth service in different states. Amanda was in Enugu state, Rita was in Rivers state and Bisi was in Lagos state. I wasn’t privileged to have one of my friends here in Abuja with me. I opened my WhatsApp to check if all three of them were online and they were. I asked if we could do a video call and they all agreed.
“My girlssss!” Amanda screamed.
“I’ve missed you guys like crazy. Omo, after graduation has been hard oh” Bisi said.
“See how all of you are glowing” Rita added.
“How are you guys?” I asked.
“We are fine” They answered.
“Lara, how are you and our baby?”
“I'm fine and the baby is sleeping”
“What about that useless boy, Ayo?” Bisi asked.
“He's fine”
“I’m sure he still sleeps around. That one that can sleep with anything wearing a skirt.” Bisi said
“Ah, ah, Bisi” I replied
“What? It’s true now. We all know that”
“Anyway, I needed to talk to you people. I need your advice. I don’t know what to do, I’m tired of sitting in this house all day”
“Hmmm, Lara, you are still young and very beautiful I would advise you to go out and get to meet someone who likes you and have fun with him. All this marriage thing is not for me oh. If my mother likes she should take me for deliverance, I’ll not get married.” Amanda replied. She said it like it’s so easy.
“So you mean I should leave my baby and just go out and flex.”
“You’ll get a nanny now. Besides, Ayo is doing the same thing why can’t you?”
“Thanks for your advice, Amanda. I was thinking that maybe I would just open a small shop not so far but not too close either because there is a supermarket near the house, I’ll just hire a house help to take care of the house while I take my baby to work with me. I don’t even have money for this plan I’m making but I’ll ask Ayo if he will be okay with a house help in the house” I said and Amanda burst out laughing.
“You want to ask Ayo, that one that does not have a brain. My dear, that one will be happy to have a house help because she’ll help him in bed too.” Amanda replied. My friends really hated Ayodeji and I did not blame them.
“Why don’t you say what you just said to my face?” I jumped on my sit when I heard Ayo’s voice. How did I not hear him come in?
“Oh hello Ayo, I said you do not have a brain which is true because you drop pieces of it with the women you sleep with. I strongly suggest you go check yourself, you could be walking around with AIDS” Amanda replied him. He didn’t think she would say worse than she said before in his presence.
“Okay bye bye. It was nice talking to you guys”
“Greet Yomi for us” Rita said.
“I will” I ended the call and turned to look at Ayo. He was avoiding my eyes, trying to mask his anger.“Sorry, she spoke to you like that” although he deserved it.
I served his food. He kept money for food so he got food today.
“I was thinking of hiring a house help but I wanted to ask you first before letting a stranger into the house”
“Why?” He asked.
“Well, I want to work. I don’t want to disturb anyone for money before I get disappointed” Okay, Lara you are the one looking for trouble.
“If you want to, you can” He replied. Maybe Amanda was right after all.
Now how was I going to get money to start this business?
