Chapter 32
AYODEJI'S POV

I didn’t understand Omolara's tenderness towards me these days. At first, I didn’t want to eat the food she cooked because I didn’t know what would be in the food and she wasn’t even eating the food she cooked but when I remembered whose money would be wasted, I ate it. She would cook early for me without having to ask her, wash my clothes, clean my room, she didn’t even exchange words with me anymore. It was quite unusual but whatever she was doing I wasn’t buying it.
I had to go to Rachel’s place today, I didn’t have the money she asked for but she would understand, she always does.

At 8 p.m. I headed to Rachel’s place in my car. She had called me two times while I was in the car. Rachel was my favourite girl, she hardly complained and always gave me what I wanted.
“My love, I’ve missed you”
“I've missed you more” I replied and kissed her.
“Are you hungry? I can cook up something for you” she said in between each kiss she gave me.
“I've eaten, I would love to but there is no space in this stomach”
“Oh, do you want to go inside the bedroom? You know, shower and do other things together” she winked at me.
“Okay, let’s go” she held my hand and we walked into her bedroom.
“Babe, you told me you would give me the money today” she said pulling my shirt up.
“Babe, I promise I’ll give you next week”
“But…I want it this week” she was nagging.
“I promise next week” She didn’t say anything she just walked into the bathroom completely clothed. I just sat on her bed hoping she would calm down soon.
Abruptly, a guy came out of her closet, then she came out of the bathroom with another guy behind her. Their hands were behind them. I was panicking, they encircled me on the bed.
“Rac…Rachel, what is going on?” I looked at her with panic in my eyes.
“Ayodeji, I will ask you again, where is the money I asked for?” She had a heinous smirk on her face.
“I…I don’t h…have it” I was trembling as I was sitting, my whole body was sweaty.
“Did you hear him, boys? He said he doesn’t have money. Should we kill him? He is not of use to me again” The guys pointed guns at me. I was short of breath at this point.
“Please t…take” I could barely hear myself “my car, d…don’t kill me.”
“Ayodeji, did you really want me to satisfy your needs for free? You irritate me, you always have disgusted me” she said “I just needed you for my bills and pleasure and you can’t do even those things well” she turned to the guys and said “beat him” then she whispered something I couldn’t hear them. There was no escape route for me, these guys were with guns and looked so scary. One of them yanked me off the bed on my feet while the other kicked my legs and I fell. They started kicking me everywhere on my body, they took turns in punching my face. They searched my pocket and took everything thing in it, my wallet, my keys, my phone. If they had hit me the last time maybe I would have passed out, I waited for another blow but I didn’t feel anything. I managed to open the other eye that wasn’t hurt, I just saw them standing above me.

“Oh Ayodeji, it’s so easy to break you.” She bent and touched the wounds on my face. “At least this way, you’ll be able to remember me for a very long time. Bye, my love” she pecked me and walked out of the house with the guys behind her. What did I get myself into? I tried to stand up but fell then I tried again and stood with so much pain, I started to cry. I was breathing heavily, limping to the door.

I managed to get out of the house and saw that they took my car. I had nothing on me and no one was passing the road. I kept limping until I finally saw a guy who I begged to help me with his phone. The only number I thought of was my mother’s number so I called her and described where I was, she told me she was on her way. I returned the phono and thanked him, the guy took me to a stone I could sit on. He was worried but I told him I would be fine. It was 9:30 p.m., the guy stood beside me making sure I was okay.

“What is your name?” I asked him.
“Kenneth”
“Thank you, Kenneth” I felt my throat close up.
“No problem”
“My name is Ayodeji”
“Nice to meet you, Ayodeji” He replied and we went silent again.
I waited for my mum. As I waited, I thought of the things Rachel said to me. I irritated her, I always disgusted her but why did she tolerate me? If there was anybody who would be irritated by me, it was Omolara and she managed to stay with me.
I never expected this kind of thing to happen to me, Rachel never seemed like someone who could do such a thing. God! I am a mess, a big mess.
