Chapter 25

AYODEJI'S POV

I didn’t feel like going out tonight although I felt uncomfortable in the house. Lara was in the kitchen preparing dinner while the baby was in the living room where I also was, she was playing with her dolls. I sat on the couch across where she played, I just hope she continues playing with the dolls.

I was scrolling through Instagram on my phone when a doll hit my face.  I looked up at the baby and saw her staring at me.
“What?” I threw the doll back to her and continued scrolling through Instagram. She threw another doll at me and I threw it back. I was starting to get pissed.
“It’s like you and your mother have teamed up to frustrate me” She threw another but this time I didn’t return it to her. Guess what? She started screaming and crying so I rushed over to her especially when I remembered how Lara pointed a knife at me.
“Okay. Shh, take it. Na wa oh, somebody can not just have peace in his own house” I returned the doll and she started giggling.
“Stupid thing” I muttered.
“Ayo!” I was startled, how did she hear me? “your food is on the table” I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding. I walked to the table and sat.
“Ehh, she was having a high fever the day I called, I forgot to tell you” I nodded, it’s not like I cared. Omolara went to play with the baby. She cooked yam porridge, it was good.
“Ayo, your phone is ringing” Lara said. I forgot it on the chair she was now sitting on. I’m sure she saw who was calling me, I stood up to get the phone.
“Hi baby” Sharon said as I answered the call.
“Ah” I cleared my throat “Hi”
“Why do you sound like I’m disturbing you?” Because you are.
“Ayodeji, if you want to excuse yourself, do so. I know it’s one of the girls you are seeing, there’s no need to pretend” Lara said. Although Lara and I were not in love, I still felt I should hide my other relationships from her. I felt it was kind of disrespectful.
“I’m not in the mood, Sharon. My day was stressful, I’ll talk to you later” I wasn’t ready to flirt with anybody this night. I finished my food, went to my room to shower, and went to bed.
The next day was tiring, work was really not for me. I went home and saw a Toyota Corolla car parked in front of the house. I had never seen the car here before.
I entered the house and saw Daniel.

“Daniel”
“Ayodeji”
“Daniel, what are you doing here?”
“Lara asked me to come over. She was excited to hear I was doing my NYSC here in Abuja”
“For what? Or don’t worry I know what” I replied. Lara came into the living room. It’s how I respected her enough to not bring my girlfriends here but see her, bringing her boyfriend here. Just because she pointed a knife at me she thought she could do whatever she wanted.
“Lara, how dare you bring your boyfriend to this house?! My house”
“Excuse me?” They both said at the same time.
“No matter what I did, I didn’t bring it here because I have respect for you”
“Ayo, you and respect don’t get along so don’t say you respect me because you don’t. I only asked Daniel to come over because I hadn’t seen him in a long time and I also needed advice about something”
“Wow, Lara. You don’t have to lie. So you are trying to tell me that both of you stayed here for God knows how long and he was just advising you. I’m not against what you are doing oh but at least do it somewhere else and stop lying about it”
“Ayodeji, don’t talk to her like!”
“Daniel, I’ll talk to her the way I want to! And you, get out of my house!”
“Abeg, shut up. Your house, your house with how much? You’re staying in a rented apartment shouting your house up and down like say na you build am. If landlord kicks you out, I wonder which house you will see to be shouting up and down!” Lara was really getting on my nerves. I rose my hand to punch her in the face but I couldn’t
“Ayo!” Daniel held my hand.
“No, leave him. Ayodeji Peter, punch me! Punch me oh!” She was screaming and dragging the collar of my shirt. I kept my hand down.
“Daniel, please leave”
“Ayo…”
“I said leave! Are you mad?!” He left the house. I went to my bedroom.
“Useless fool!” Lara screamed from outside. Since she wanted to do this, I could do this too. Better than her.
