Chapter 20

OMOLARA'S POV

The past week was hell for me, I had cried more times than I had eaten. After that night, my mum came to me and told me she was disappointed but I was still her daughter, although she didnt like the decision my dad made, there was no other way to convince him. My dad ignored me like I wasnt there, I didnt blame him.

Lara, come downstairs we are going to pick your gowns for the white wedding and court wedding Mum called from downstairs. This weekend was the court wedding, the next was the white wedding. My dad didnt want traditional marriage and he made sure the white wedding would be a small one without a reception, what is there to celebrate?
E kaaro sir, e kaaro ma I greeted my parents. My dad didnt acknowledge my greeting, he didnt acknowledge anything I did.
Have you eaten? Mum asked. I nodded no.
Lara, please eat at least for this child growing inside your belly Ive heard of mothers who actually hate their children and I always thought they were cruel but right now, I hate this child so much.
Okay, Ill eat I ate just a slice of bread and drank tea then I stood up. My mum wanted to say something but she stopped herself.
We got to the store with so many beautiful wedding dresses. We just wanted simple dresses.

Good day, we are looking for simple dresses we can rent
Welcome, youve come to the right store
We went round the store looking for the dresses. We found dresses that fit the description simple but pretty
A wedding is a wedding and you have to look pretty for it my mum whispered into my ears and smiled.
The dress for the court wedding was a knee-length white off-shoulder dress while the one for the white wedding was a long lace dress with long sleeves. They were really pretty.

We were done with finding the dresses. My mum booked the caterer, makeup artist, wedding planner and other people we needed, she also told me to ask my friends for measurements for their dresses. When I told them what happened to me, they tried to mask their sadness but I heard it in their voices. They even wanted to come and visit but I didnt want to make my dad angrier than I had already made him so I declined their visit.

The week passed with people sounding excited while telling me what their plan for the wedding was and me just agreeing to whatever they said. I wish they knew how unexciting this wedding was.

It was Saturday morning, the morning of the court wedding. At nine oclock this morning, I would be legally married to Ayodeji. Three hours more, I went to shower and eat. I looked at the gown I was going to wear and tears filled my eyes. Soon, the makeup artist came and took two hours to do my makeup, left for me I would have gone without makeup on my face. When she was done with my face, the hairstylist styled my wig as she wore it on my head. I ordered the wig from Rita which she delivered at the gate of my house so I didnt see her. The wig was black, shiny and curly. I looked at myself in the mirror, I looked really beautiful although my eyes looked dull. When the makeup artist and hairstylist were done, I wore my dress as my mum stood at the door in a black knee-length gown.
You look beautiful, child She hugged me and it took so much strength in me not to cry. I needed the hug.

My dad drove us to the court where we met Ayodeji and his family waiting. Ayo didnt look happy to see us neither did I. The judge stood at the table and asked Ayodeji and me to sit beside each other. Ayo looked like he wanted to punch someone.

Let's get to the point, I am not going to waste time on this The judge said. Quite rude but no one wanted to waste time. He presented the papers and told Ayo and me to sign other our names which we did. As I signed, a teardrop touch the paper but no one noticed or even if they did, they ignored it. The witnesses which were Ayo's dad and mine also signed. It was done, here comes the beginning of my misery.
