Change of Heart?

"Nice to see you kitty."

Turning around quickly I saw the same tiger as before, with that same sexy smirk on his face. Wait no, don't think that.

"Are these animals a present for me?" He said, taking out his claws. "You shouldn't have."

"These are my pets," I said, getting in front of Crystal and Hazel. Crystal only came to my side growling. "If you want them you have to go through me."

"What are pets?" He asked, confused, starting to circle me.

"Companions, partners of sort." I said, readying a hand on a knife on my hip.

He got out of a fighting stance and just looked at me more confused from me to my animals.

"Doesn't this land have animal companions of some sort?" I asked.

"The most we have is the farm animals." He said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Why would someone even want a 'pet'"?

"Usually someone gets one so they aren't lonely. They can feel like family and for some people, animals are better than actual family."

He just started to look at me and what started as almost a fight has now turned into an awkward situation. Starting to walk toward me and with me still being on edge I reached for my knife. He took my arm and looked where he left the last marks.

"This isn't the life I wanted." He said. "This is family work."

"Why are you telling me this?" I asked to take my arm back.

"I know this land is dying because of the lack of animals, and I know it won't last much longer if we don't stop hunting. I want to be able to live in a world that's full of life and thriving, but when I try to tell my dad he says I'm being paranoid."

"Are you saying you want to join my side?" I was a little shocked.

"I don't know, maybe?" He said. "Listen Kitty, I may be a huge flirt but I do have an interest in you and do find you quite attractive. So maybe with the right motivation you could sway me?"

He came closer and held my waist and moved his giant paws down my body. I was about to say something when I heard a loud roar, like from a big cat. The tiger looked behind him and then to me and gave me the same smirk.

"Think about what I said." He said, turning to leave, "and my name's Jason."

He ran off into the woods towards the sound of the roar and I just looked at Crystal and Hazel. Crystal narrowed her eyes in his direction and gave a snort kind of sound. Putting the last of the food I gathered in the bag I got back on Crystal and we took off. As we flew back I thought about what Jason said.

It sounded like a change of heart, but how do I know he was being genuine? Or what if this was all a trick for him to get into my heart enough for me to trust him and bring him back to the base, only for him to tell his fathers group and they attack us? There were too many things to consider. Making it back to the camp I dismounted Crystal in front of the barn-like building and walked in with Hazel on my shoulder.

There was Hondu, Nadel, Liam, and James. Going to the back kitchen I put all the food I gathered away and turned to them all.

"What if there was a way for us to gain intel on one of the poacher groups?" I asked out loud.

"That would be incredibly helpful." Nadel said smiling.

"I think that would depend on how we get this intel." James said, getting up looking at me.

"I bumped into the same Claw member again just 10 minutes ago." I said, gaining shocked faces. "He said he didn't want to be hunting and poaching, that he's only doing it because it's a family business. And that he knows this world is dying because of the lack of animals and he's tried changing his dad's mind but he won't budge. He said he would join our side and help restore the land."
