Flying through the air I realized the sun was starting to set, I didn't realize how late it was getting. Looking ahead of me at Jason I smiled as he flew on Blueberry's back. I had to admit he has changed a bit since I first met him, although he still calls me kitty and flirts a lot. I don't mind much really.
"How much further is this place?" I called out.
"We're here." He said going down.
Crystal and I followed and we landed in a clearing that seemed to be glowing. As we landed I saw the glowing was actually very huge mushrooms. They had bright neon colors and were a lot of size's but most of them were four feet high and five feet wide. Looking at Jason curiously I saw he started to set out all the bags and jars we needed to fill. Smiling, I got off Crystal and did the same.
Around us I noticed that the trees were filled with food and so were the bushes. This area was abundant with food. Crystal handed me my stick and I walked over to a bush and started to fill it up. Feeling paws gently touch my waist I looked behind me and smiled at Jason.
"Do you recognize this area?" He asked.
"Not really." I said as I continued with the berries. "I don't really explore the land when it's night."
"Well this is where we first met." Jason let go of my waist and I walked back to get another jar.
Confused, I looked around and tried to remember if it was. Night time here makes areas look different, but I'm starting to recognize it.
"You mean when you first attacked me?" I turned to him, smirking.
He lightly frowned and his ears went back. Frowning myself I didn't realize he was sensitive about that. Setting out a jar and grabbing my stick I walked over to him and grabbed his paw with my free hand and looked up at him.
"I'm sorry." I said. "I shouldn't joke about that."
"It's fine." Jason said smiling. "It's just not one of my proudest moments, I do admit that it's a funny story to tell others."
Smiling up at him I felt his tail go around my waist and he brought me closer. Suddenly he picked me up and I was taken aback. Jason started to chuckle and he walked us over to the huge mushrooms. Before I could say anything he threw me onto them and I was expecting to just land on them, but I started to bounce. Looking down confused I stopped myself then felt the mushrooms, they were bouncy. Jason jumped next to me and sent me flying and I started to laugh and he did as well.
"What are these?" I asked between giggles.
"No one knows what they're called." Jason said, catching me as I fell back down. "We just know that these are fun and taste very good."
"These can be food?" I asked.
"Oh yeah." Jason slid us off but set me down on one to sit as he walked to one not that far off. "These top parts are but only if you cook it over a fire or in water, the bottom part here is poisonous."
"Oh." I said surprised. "We should definitely bring some back."
"On it." Jason smirked.
He took out a long sword he kept at his side and sliced off the top part of two big Bouncerroms, yep that sounds like a good name for them. Putting them in a pile we continued to fill the jars and bags we brought. It didn't take long until they were full. Putting the last of the stuff in Crystal's saddle bag I turned around and saw Jason set out a blanket and was about to start a fire.
"Jason what are you doing?" I asked, walking over.
"Since we're done collecting food," He picked me up and laid me on the blanket, "I want to get to know you more on a deeper level."
"Oh, is this part of that mating process you talked about?" I asked.
"Yep." He smiled as the fire started.
He handed me a stick and he set cut up Bounceroom between us and put a broken bebe fruit next to the fire. Grabbing some heart throb berries he smashed them up and made a paste or jelly with it, I wouldn't know how to exactly describe that.
"What was it like?" I asked.
"What was what like?" Jason asked, smiling at me.
"I guess being raised by someone in charge? Did you get special privileges? Were you treated differently than others in that group?"
Jason frowned and sat next to me and looked down. Oh no, did I say something stupid? Is that too personal to ask?
"Abby," Jason said, "My life in the claw was not good. Looking back at it after what that monster said, everything makes more sense. In a way, yes, I was treated differently than others, but not in a good way. As long as I could remember my 'father' always put pressure on me to be the best and most ruthless. I was always in training, learning to fight, I never wanted to though. He made me keep fighting until my opponent was either dead or barely breathing. I always did what he wanted though, I always wanted his approval. Whenever I showed mercy or kindness I got hit or got no food. But that's what life is like for everyone who hunts the animals here.
"I guess one of the reasons I want you as my mate is because you're the first one to show me it's ok to be kind, and it's ok to not want to fight all the time. That and you're more attractive than the other females here."
"Oh Jason." I let out.
Moving closer I hugged his side but he got out of my arms and rested his head in my lap instead. Frowning a little I started to pet his head, and he soon started to purr. Smiling a little at that he turned around and was now looking up at me smiling.
"How did you find this land anyway?" He asked. "I mean I told you my story so why don't you tell me yours?"
"You really want to hear mine?" I was kind of surprised.
"Yeah." He rested a paw on my cheek.
