There were bodies of animals everywhere. I held my hand to my mouth in shock. I wanted to walk away but I felt like there was something I had to do. Walking over to one I rested my hand on the body and I felt something, it was the same kind of feeling I got when I first flew with Crystal.
Feeling the wetness of a nose I opened my eyes and I saw a faint ghostly figure of the animals that were laying around. There were larger versions of the Dorse, the duck horse, and of the Slivelumps, the reptilian like cow, and the Ostis, the bird with a horse like head. They all surrounded me and bowed their heads before I saw them go into the ground out of sight.
Standing up slowly I looked behind me at Jason and he looked at me shocked.
"What was that?" I asked.
"Didn't Jabnelsa say you represent the Spirit element?" He said and I nodded, "My guess is then you help passed animals go on to the next life by releasing their spirit. Actually I've noticed you have a stronger connection to animals compared to the rest of your family."
Thinking about it I have had a weird connection with the animals. That might be why I know so much about them, the species names, what they prefer to eat, and my intuition of how their species acts in general.
I was taken out of my thoughts as Smoke and Blackstripe ran under my feet, nearly making me fall. They ran out the back of the building and Jason and I followed them with all the animals following. I saw them jump over a broken fence and go into what looked like an area for birds, outside of it though there were more dead bodies, but this time they were of a reptile like chicken.
Bending down I rested my hand on one of the bodies and frowned as I felt its cold body. Ghostly figures appeared from their bodies and I looked at them. Smiling sadly at them I feel a bit happy to know I can help the animals move on from this world to the next. Once they disappeared in the ground I stood back up.
Walking over to Jason, who was by the small area, I went to his side and he opened the top. Inside were a bunch of babies of the Frillens, the reptile-like chickens. Since they had different colored scales, some had more feathers than others, and some looked more fluffy than others. There was also a bunch of eggs next to them that seemed to be the same size as the babies. Somewhere broken, somewhere not. Maybe these guys just hatched?
"This doesn't make sense." I said looking at Jason. "Why are all the adults dead and not the babies?"
"I have two ideas, but neither are good." Jason said looking down angry. "Theory one is, they killed all the parents and left the babies as a sign or threat to us. If that's the case the message would be that no matter what they will kill all the animals in this land."
"What about theory two?" I asked, looking at him hopeful.
"They killed the adults and didn't know about the babies." Jason said and started to look around. He went over to a huge bush and I saw a bunch of large cracked eggs. "A majority of the animals here lay eggs, so it looks like the adults hid their eggs, and others stored their newborns here before they got killed."
"So after the adults got killed the eggs hatched after they all left." I said finishing his thought. Jason looked at me and nodded. "That's most likely what happened. You didn't touch the bodies but I did. They felt stone cold to the touch, like they've been like this for weeks."
Crystal and Blueberry flew over to us and brought Jason and I out of our conversation. There were three huge eggs in total with Crystal holding 2 and Blueberry holding one. We took them from them and they were quite heavy for eggs, then again they were bigger than our heads.
"What could be in these?" I asked Jason.
Suddenly a loud sound ran through the air, like someone blew a horn.
"Fulu, we gotta get out of here quick, we can find out what's in these eggs later." Jason said, putting the egg in Blueberry's saddle bag.
Putting the two eggs I had in one pouch I put a cloth between them so they wouldn't break. We quickly picked up the Frillen eggs and put them in our other pouches as Smoke and Blackstripe herded the Frillens. Getting on our Wolfrons backs Crystal gave a low growl and all the other babies came over and we headed out.
"Jason what was the horn?" I asked as we started to leave.
"When that horn is blown it means it's time for a hunt." Jason said, frowning. "We're very close to the Claw base camp so we should get out of here quickly and quietly."
I nodded and we sped up our pace. The Kozons made sure the Frillen chicks all stayed together and our Wolfrons did the same with the larger babies. It took us a while to get back since we had to travel by land but I soon saw our base threw the trees.
Exiting the tree line I looked over to the area our farm animals were soon going to be at. Quite a bit of progress was made. There was still the framework for the building but there was a small hut for the Frillens and a large fenced pasture for the larger babies. Getting off Crystal I opened the gate and Jason and Blueberry led the big babies in. After we got them all in, Jason got off Blueberry and we started to pick up the baby Frillens.
Our Wolfrons helped and we put them in the small fenced area with the coop like building. After putting all the animals up I then turned to the huge eggs Jason and I put in the saddle bags.
They were about the size of an ostrich egg from home, maybe slightly bigger, and were a light baby blue. I wonder what was in these? Jason and I took them and walked them over to the barn and put them on a big chair. Wrapping a blanket around them for warmth I was just so curious.
"What do you think is in them?" I asked.
"They look like the eggs of the workers of our farms." Jason said and looked down, and I looked at him confused. "They were more like slaves, taken by my fa-, I mean the leader of Claw."
"Well we have them now." I said taking his paw. "We will give them a better life, a free life."
After I said this I saw Jason give me a small smile. It was now that I wondered where Mator and Jonhonn were. Looking around I saw them come from the other side of the area carrying more planks. They came over and put the wood down and walked over to us.
"Sorry we had to go get more supplies." Jonhonn said, smiling at Jason.
"It's fine, it just means I can see how much you guys want to make up." Jason said, smiling back.
"Were there only babies?" Mator said, making us look at him.
He was standing by the fence and looking in while petting one of the Slivelumps. The rest of us walked over and I looked down. Maybe if Jason and I got there sooner we would have been able to save all of the animals. Feeling a paw on my shoulder I looked up and saw Jason looking at me, I'm pretty sure he could tell what I was thinking.
"All the adults were dead when we got there." Jason growled. "All the babies were hiding but came out when we got there."
"At least you guys were able to find them before the rest of Claw did." Jonhonn said. "With them here now we should get back to building so they have shelter."
