Moonstone's POV
Her day was going well, which was a good sign. She managed to avoid most of the wolves besides Alpine, of course. She sat in the back corners of the classrooms and hid in the shadows in the halls. She thought she was going to make it. Until lunchtime.
She sat in the back corner of the cafeteria alone. It was where she usually sat when her sister was sick and had to stay home. It was the darkest part of the cafeteria where no one ever sat, except for her. Since Alpine was a level lower than her, she had a different lunch schedule. So she tried to avoid attention as much as possible.
She thought she had done a pretty good job until Aragon and a bunch of his snarling minions strutted over like they owned the place.
"Hey, hybrid, where's your sister?" Aragon asked, then fake gasped. "Oh, that's right, I forgot, how insensitive of me. She turned out to be just as weird as you and ended up in the infirmary."
She felt tears burning in her eyes. She was not going to let herself show Aragon how much that stung. How much insecurity and fear she had about her sister getting better. That she wished she didn't have to go to school and just sit at her sister's side. So she just straightened up and glared at him.
"You're the weird one, Aragon. You have to go picking on others just to make yourself feel better. Is your life really so worthless and sad that you have to pick on others just for your own enjoyment." She snapped back feeling familiar anger rise up in her.
"Nice try, Hybrid. If anyone's trying to make themselves feel better, it's you. I mean, you have been sulking around school this entire day. Hiding in shadows and the backs of classrooms hoping for attention from the other pups. Don't think anyone would notice you even though you're already twice the size of a normal wolf and half dragon."
She didn't know how to respond, but she felt her tears spill over her cheeks, and she backed against the wall where they had cornered her.
Aragon saw her tears and laughed. He lashed his claws across her scales which burned a lot, and she crouched in a defensive position. She looked at the scratch and saw that it was extremely deep and had cut through a few veins making it bleed more. He slashed at her a few more times. Hitting her exactly right where she would bleed the most.
"Awwwww, did we hurt your feelings? I'm sorry I forgot how sensitive and babyish you are."
Just as she was getting really dizzy from losing that much blood, someone finally decided to help her. Everyone else had gathered around them watching with snickers at how she couldn't even protect herself against a stupid bully like Aragon.
"Leave her alone, Aragon!" Said a familiar voice that she couldn't exactly place. She knew she had heard it from somewhere. Aragon and his goons parted to reveal a very handsome tealed eyed wolf.
She had seen him before a few times in the hallways, always surrounded by females. She had never spoken a single word to him in her life. He had thick black fur that when he stood in the light looked suspiciously navy. The tips of his paws were white with a slight greenish tint to them. His Lunar Stone had a silver ring around it just like hers so she knew he had to be a beta like her. Maybe one or two levels up. She knew he was very popular, so why was he standing up for her? She was the weird dragon every popular wolf tried to avoid as much as possible.
"Excuse me?" Aragon said, his voice dripping with venom. She thought he would crumble under Aragon's powerful glare, like most of the wolves did, but he just straightened and glared back at him.
"You heard me. I said to leave her alone. Can't you see what a jerk you're being to someone who is already having a hard time? I know you know what happened to her sister the other day. Are you really such a jerk that you want to cause her more pain then she is already in."
