Moonstone's POV
She had officially lost control of her own body. There was just so much power inside of her. Constantly building and only getting harder to control. She had to keep continually flaming something to ease the pressure. Moonstone could barely see past her flames, but she had seen her sister on the edge of them staring at her, terrified. Then she had taken off, probably for the best.
She just hoped her sister and Finn would be safe from wherever they were. Far away from whatever was happening to her. The power that was building up inside of her felt like it was trying to take her over.
She looked up at the moon, where its usual calming glow seemed to be replaced with fiery darkness. She wondered if that was because of her or if it was just her eyes.
A new wave of power felt like a million dragon claws stabbing her all at once causing her to cry out in pain. The pain didn't ease until she blew a few fresh flames of fire into the dark forest beyond.
Was this going to be what she was like from now on? A monster with too much power? Her old self was like broken shards of glass, all over the place and fragmented.
She could feel tears streaming down her face from the pain when suddenly the fire to her left cooled. She turned to see Finn glowing bright blue as he made orbs of water smash onto the fire.
When Finn looked at her, he winced, making Moonstone's heartbreak. She probably looked like some sort of monster. Even if he did like her before there was no way he would ever accept her now. She truly was a monster, she deserved to sit there alone in the forest until she rotted into nothing.
Though Finn didn't run. He didn't scream. He instead walked towards her with a determined look on his face. He did surround himself with water though, which was probably good in case she flamed again.
"Moonstone. Moonstone can you hear me?" His voice was gentle and soft which she appreciated. She had started getting a huge headache from the constant roar in her ears. She nodded slightly, wincing from the pain that came from it. "Okay, good. Just breathe."
He took her claws and wrapped his paws around hers. Before he had done that, her entire body had felt —and probably had been— on fire, but now that he was touching her, she felt the fire extinguish. She felt her whole body relax, and she sighed in relief.
She smiled at him gratefully, and he smiled back, making everything feel a little bit better. Moonstone felt the heat subside around her, and she realized that all of the fires were finally out. She was so relieved and bathed in the peacefulness of not being near or on fire.
Suddenly a new wave of power like never before crashed down on her, and she shrieked with pain, wrapping her wings around herself and blowing tons of fire out into the forest. She didn't care if she hit anyone with them. All she cared about was easing the excruciating pain.
She felt like she was more on fire than ever before. She could faintly hear what might have been Finn and Starclaw calling her name, but she was so lost in the flames of pain that she couldn't hear or respond.
Even when she closed her eyes, she could still see flames everywhere. Visions or daydreams —she didn't know which— of the world burning played through her head. She got lost in the terror of it all, trying to claw her way out of that horrible nightmare.
She suddenly felt cool, wet paws, touching her flaming hot scales. The fires started dousing in her nightmare or vision, and Finn's calm face appeared where the flames used to be. His strong paws pulled her out of the flaming darkness and back into reality. All the fire and pain seemed to drain out of her leaving her a hollow shell of exhaustion.
Now Moonstone knew she could never, ever get that way again. Then reality began to sink in. They were safe — away from Errier and her horrible dragon kingdom. Things could go back to normal. She then met Finn's eyes and felt a spark of gratitude and something...... else. Right then, she knew, things were never going to go back to being the way they used to be.
She knew that Queen Errier was still in her dragon kingdom with her mind-controlling powers ready at any time to retake control of her. But at the moment, it seemed as if they were done. Free. Anything was possible now that they were all together again. Moonstone, Finn, Starclaw, and Sage were ready to take on the world. Even if it would take one claw step at a time.
The End.
The book is finished! There will be an epilogue but thank you all for the support along the way! I love you guys!
