Mikey was ecstatic when he received a text from Emma informing him that Kozue was finally back at school. He had been walking back to his own class with Draken when he received it, but quickly turned around again and rushed back towards Emma leaving a clueless Draken to shout after him angrily.
'It's too early for his nonsense.'
He instantly spotted her by the window as she usually was and rushed over to her desk sitting in front of her. She didn't need to look up to know who was in front of her, she had been expecting it, but she slowly opened her eyes anyway to look at the chipper blonde boy.
His eyes couldn't help but scan over her features which still held some bruising and cuts. He felt his anger returning, seeping in like some unwanted disease. He wanted so badly to hunt down the people who did this to her, and he clenched his fists trying to keep himself in check.
"How are you doing?" He asked sending her a bright smile, something that she hadn't been given in a long time and she looked back towards the window which was now being attacked with small bullets of water.
"I'm fine thanks. No need to worry." She said clearly not liking being worried over and a small frown settled on his face when he realised, she didn't seem phased one bit by what happened. It was a feeling that unsettled him.
'Had something like this happened before?'
"What happened? Who did that to you?" He asked and her steel grey eyes shot to him so quickly he flinched.
"It's none of your business." She told him before putting her headphones back on, but he stood up in front of her to show her he didn't plan on leaving.
"The least you could do is tell me after we helped you." He told her before she could even press play, and she took her headphones back off.
"Thank you for that, really, I am grateful. But it's still none of your business." She said stoically and he clicked his tongue.
He had heard rumours that someone had taken down 50 members including the Haitani brothers and it happened to be the same night he found her in that state, and couldn't help but wonder...
'Nah, there's no way.'
Realising he wasn't going to leave, she got up herself and began walking away. The boy's eyes widened, and he quickly reached for her wrist.
"Where are you going? Your class hasn't even started yet?"
"Let go." She warned him, and he quickly did as she said holding his hands up in defence. "Look, I don't know why you're so persistent, or why you seem to care but you need to let it go. You're just wasting your time."
"I'm not wasting my time and I'm not going to let it go." He refused and her lips parted slightly before she frowned, he was really starting to get on her nerves.
"Why not?"
"Because I want to be friends." He said and his answer startled her for a moment. "You must be lonely moving here with no friends, right?"
"No." She stated plainly and a little too quickly, and he blinked a few times in disbelief. He almost felt offended.
"Everyone needs friends." He tried to reason but the look she gave him made him feel as if she were staring straight through him, it was something he hadn't felt before and it made him feel vulnerable. Like she could see right through him and into his soul.
"Not everyone."
"You'll be forever alone."
"I don't care."
"You're a liar. No one wants to be alone. Everyone wants friends." He said and she narrowed her eyes taking a step towards him.
"I'm not a liar. Why bother when all they do in the end is abandon you? You'll always end up alone either way. Better to not have them at all than have them break you." She said harshly before walking away leaving him baffled and silent.

Mikey made his way back to class with his jaw clenched just as tightly as his fists.
"Better to not have them at all than have them break you."
Her words were continuing to ring in his head, and he shook it trying to get them out.
'She's wrong.' He told himself.
He knew there was a reason she felt that way. Clearly, she had them in the past right? So... what happened? Did they abandon her? Hurt her? He wanted to know, he wanted to know why she would think something like that, and he wanted to change her mind.
He would change her mind.
'But is she also right?'
"You'll always end up alone either way."
He couldn't deny that some part of him agreed with what she said, but it was something he always refused to believe.
Mikey had felt alone many times before and he continued to feel that same feeling, even with his friends surrounding him.
But something was different now.
Every time he found himself talking to the steel eyed girl, no matter the subject, that painful feeling of loneliness would dissipate. Talking to her was becoming something he craved, something he wanted everyday. It was an addiction. But how was that going to be possible if she didn't even want to give him the time of day?
"Hurry up and sit down." A familiar voice scolded him, and he looked up to see he was already resting against his desk while Draken was seated in his own chair. "I swear you're spacing out more than usual lately."
"Do you believe that everyone needs friends Ken-chin?" Mikey suddenly asked causing the tattooed male's eyes to widen.
"I mean, yeah? Of course. Without friends you'd have no one to talk to, no one to make you feel happy or do the things you enjoy with- Wait where is this coming from?" He asked and the Sano boy shook his head as he finally sat down.
"Nowhere, just wanted to prove a point."
Draken looked at him suspiciously, noticing the annoyed look on his face before he shrugged his shoulders with a sigh.
"If you say so."
