In class Emma was paired with Kozue and the two had to leave class to get something, as per their teachers request.
Emma was delighted with the opportunity to have alone time with Kozue, though suspected if her brother knew he would be extremely jealous.
She trying her best to ask Kozue about herself, her life, but she was very closed off and didn't give her anything. The blonde couldn't help but admit that she liked the girl, even if she did come off as cold and not as friendly as others, there was just something about her.
'I think I get what Mikey means.'
She eventually gave in, understanding that it must be something she didn't want to talk about. But she could tell whatever it was the steel eyed girl was going through, she needed to open up to someone. So instead she decided to change the subject.
"Why do you hate my brother?" Emma suddenly asked causing Kozue to turn towards the blonde haired girl. Emma recognised the confused look before clarifying. "Mikey? Manjiro?"
Kozue's brows furrowed as her steel eyes shifted to the ground.
"I mean, I get he can be annoying, up in your face sometimes, persistent but-"
"I don't hate him." She answered honestly cutting off the Sano girl. "I have no reason to. He seems like a good person."
Emma's brows creased into a look of confusion, opening her mouth to say something before shutting it again.
"Huh? Then why do you act so cold towards him?!" She exasperated almost making the girl flinch at her sudden loudness.
"Because like I said, he seems like a good person. I wouldn't want to drag a good person into my shitty life." She said honestly, her eyes holding a certain emptiness that gave Emma chills. She wondered just what she had been through, and it made her sad to think there wasn't anything she could do to help, at least not right now.
'But maybe Mikey can.'
He seemed to slowly be getting through to the girl. Even though the two were currently on bad terms after the events from the other day, her telling him to stay away from her, yet he still continued to persist.
"But Kozue... everyone needs someone." Emma said quietly and Kozue paused turning to look at her.
"I don't think you understand." She said also making the blonde stop in her tracks to turn towards her. "It's not that I wouldn't want to be friends, it's that I wouldn't want to drag him into my mess. Why would I want to destroy someone else? I may not know him all that well, but I know exactly what he's like. If I let him in then he will never stop persisting, never stop trying to find out what's wrong and make my life better even if it's at his own expense. Am I wrong?" She asked and Emma bit her lip.
'No, you're dead right.' She thought to herself.
"But if he wants to make it better, why not let him?"
