⚊ chapter fifty one

Happy birthday to me, I guess? I happened to be born the same time all the people in the world welcomes the New Year at the exact time of 12 am.

Imagine how it was funny for me to think that while everyone is to watch fireworks and cheers their toast of wine, all wishing for the next year to be kind, my family was rushing down to the hospital.

It was unexpected, they said.

They were all spending it at my grandparents' house and they were all dancing to the music when my sister, Dahyun who is already seven then just suddenly pointed to the water sliding down my mom's legs.

It went into chaos because the way to the hospital was blocked with people celebrating and my dad have to scream to so many of them just to get out of the way.

On top of all things, the car broke down in the middle of nowhere and funnily enough, it had to be in a sunflower's farm.

The owner of it where the ones to help my dad to go in the hospital and thus, it leads for a funny story of how the man himself gave my mom a bouquet of sunflowers the next day.

The moment I was already there in her arms.

And so that's how I to be named Sunhee - close to the sunflowers and the sun as my first cry starts at the first sunrise of the year.

"Ready, Shorty?", Ni-ki calls me from my room.

Time to face everyone. This time has come to face my fears too, to face Heeseung and my friends along his.

They were all invited here by my mom who were probably still the most friendliest person there is to know in this world.

Since it's my 18th birthday, she went all out again with all the decorations and foods. I heard even some of my sister's friends from JYP will arrive and the whole house is alive to the backyard with visitors.

The swimming pool that was rarely used is bursting into lights and there were so many people I could barely keep up.

I'm of legal age now and I don't know if this will be a turning point in my life.

"Not yet!", I yell back and turn to face myself in the mirror.

I wore a simple blue dress, my hair is braided with a flower crown in my hair in courtesy of Dahyun wanting me to look prettier for tonight.

When I finally got down with Ni-ki downstairs, I hug my mom tightly at the bottom step, trying to show how thankful I was for her. I tousle Sunoo's hair even though he's a head taller than me and he kisses me at the top of my head.

Dad pulls me into a strong embrace and finally I turn to Grandpapa and Grandmama.

Everytime I see them together being happy despite of having to spend the rest of life with each other, experiencing up and down's and the first signs of dementia, I love how it can't change their bond for each other.

Because of them, I still believe in love even if it already breaks me.

"Happy New Year!", I give them a big smile and squeeze them both in a hug at the same time.

"Happy birthday, Sunny. We love you"

"I love you too. I mean, I love everyone in this room!", I shouted, causing for all of my family to rush us all in a group hug.

I only left them due to seeing Ni-ki felt awkward outside the circle. I draw in a deep breath and steps in the backyard with him as I turned to greet as many as visitors as I could.
