Meera tucked the saree around her waist securely before drawing up her appearance in the mirror once more. The saree was beautiful as she ran her hand around it softly. The color was green and the saree matched a pair of green eyes. Enchanting, scary, deep like a quiet forest.
"I don't know why are we doing the dinner," she whined lowly, turning to face her mother who rolled her eyes.
"It is a get together. Stop complaining and look nice, it is a big one, Meera," she heard the latter chiding and Meera couldn't help but bring the lower lips between her teeth. But why in her parents house?
She hated people coming over her house and going to someone else's house and most importantly, she hated people known as her 'neighbor'. "I guess they are here, be fast, Meera and let's go." Her mother walked ahead as Meera sighed. She was not going to allow her mind remember him, she reminded. This morning when Meera had woke up, she had seen Yuvaan gone and then never heard from him.
"I never knew you invited Akash and his parents," Meera murmured as her face glinted up meeting Akash's. "Your father did," her mother answered. His parents were her father's friends and neighbors. Akash was of her age. Born in the same month, they had gone to the same school and had been in the same class and college. He was the first ever friend Meera had. They grew up together and it wasn't a surprise for her parents when Akash's mother had joked that they will be wedded to each other when they will be adults.
But things changed and they lost connections. Akash migrated to Chicago when they both were 19 for his future studies and had became a engineer over there. "I'm literally seeing you after years, Meera," he cheered with a faint American accent before pulling her into a embrace and planting a kiss on her forehead. Meera laughed.
"I can't believe you are married and boy, you are glowing. Any good news?" He wriggled his eyebrows in a playful manner but she chose to ignore it. Meera shook her head. "Come on, Meera, I know he is hot or else I was enough for you."
"What?!"
She found herself being offended yet Akash laughed, shrugging it as a joke for which Meera scowled. "We are planning to have the meal, Akash. Leave her for awhile," they both heard Akash's mother yelling from inside and then trails of chuckles.
"She still ships us?" Meera murmured. "Always had, I guess. You don't worry," Meera glared at him. "Fine," he rolled back his eyes and followed her inside.
The one thing she oh-so disliked was her aunt whom her father thought to invite as a gesture likewise today, where her aunt sat in front of her with her eyes curiously staring at her face.
"So Meera?" She raised her eyebrows as Meera frowned in confusion. "All alone... I thought we'll meet your husband finally as this is a family get together," she continued as the conversation went on and she found all eyes on her. "Of course, Meera. I want to meet the man too who swept you to Rajasthan," Akash's mother joined, joking as everyone chuckled present in the room excluding her parents and her.
Dammit, why was everyone so obsessed with her husband?
She thought while focusing back on the people present on the table. "He is-"
"I guess I'm the most talked about person here this night, isn't it?"
His sensational voice cut her own as her brown eyes locked with a pair green ones. They were looking at her and her only as if she was the only one present in the room. Yuvaan took a seat in front of her as she beside was already occupied by Akash, much to Yuvaan's dismay. If it had not been for his wife, he could have not been here, seated and socializing with people. Meera took a glance over here parents and then met their hard eyes on the uninvited guest.
