You wake up with a raging headache. Slowly making your way out to the kitchen, grabbing a few painkillers, and a large bottle of water . Chugging it down in one standing. Yet the headache was worth every minute of last night. It's been so long since you've actually connected with Tony like that. No arguments, no yelling. Just Two people getting drunk in a small bar past midnight, reminiscing old times.

"Rough night?"

You turn around, seeing Steve standing in front of you. All packed and ready for your trip.

"You could say that" you chuckle.

"It's okay if you're not up for it today" he assures you. As he walks closer to you.

"No.. I want to come.." you assure him.

"Really?" He says almost surprised.

"Of course Steve.. we'll find him" you smile, reaching out your hand. "I'll just need ten minutes then I'm ready" you say.

you walk into your bedroom getting dressed, as you look yourself in the mirror wiping away the mascara stain underneath your eyes. You splash some cold water in your face, before grabbing your utility bag, and some clean clothes.

"Alright I'm ready" you smile, grabbing an apple on your way out the door.

Steve and you get inside the car, Your job was primarily to be company, and search for any intel about where the winter soldiers were operating at the moment. A few days ago you got a notification there had been a sighting of Barnes near Montreal. So you had a long road trip ahead of you. But at least you were accompanied by Steve.

Who weirdly enough didn't say a thing for minutes...

Hours..

You just sat in silence. It was like there was knots on your tongue, making you compelled unable to form any word at all.

You shift you gaze back and forth between the road and steve. Tapping your finger aggressively against the side of the door.

"Will you stop that?" Steve asks coldly. Gazing over at you.

"Yeah sorry" You turn to look at him.. shocked you got a reaction from him. "Did I do something?"

"Can we not.." Steve mumbles.. "let's just get there" he scoffs. As he keeps driving.

You nod your head slowly. As you turn around looking out over the trees passing by you.. so much for spending time with him..

You didn't even realize you had fallen asleep till the car stopped. You slowly open your eyes. Steve is standing outside an abandoned country house, in the middle of nowhere.

"Do you want to go in alone?" You asks softly.

Steve looks over at you, you can't seem to read his face. He's just standing there starring into nothingness.

"He's not here.. so why does it matter?" He asks frustrated.

"There might by clues to where he is" you say trying to encourage him.

"He wouldn't be so stupid... he doesn't want me to find him y/n"

Then you finally realize... he's beginning to give up. The hope of ever finding Barnes was slowly fading away, just like any memory the two of them shared together. Steve holds onto a photo of him in the palm of his hand, clenching into it, crumbling it up.
