"Haven, come." Josh suddenly growled. I tilted my head to the side, confused by his change. He had just been laughing and joking moments ago and we'd all been having fun. I didn't do anything wrong, had I? "Now." He growled a little louder, as his eyes focused on something behind me. I quickly made my way to him, and he put an arm tightly around my waist pulling me on to his lap. "Good girl." He kissed my forehead. But something was wrong and I could tell he was on edge but I had no idea why.
Ryan and Ricky stayed silent, sitting across from us at the table. Ricky intently watched something where I had been standing.
"You think it's a coincidence?" Ryan asked him. Josh shook his head, glancing at all of the people around us before his eyes lingered at that same spot.
"No, and I made the mistake of saying her name.. I think you guys should get her out of here." I had been silent this whole time, even though I was confused but I couldn't be quiet any longer.
"What's wrong? What's going on?" I asked.
"Ill tell you later." His tone left no place to argue.
"I'm not leaving you." I protested. If he wanted me out of here then he was leaving with me. Otherwise I wasn't going anywhere.
"You'll do as I say. This isn't the time to be a stubborn brat." I went back to being silent as Ricky stopped watching whatever it was and turned his attention back to us.
"I don't think that's gonna work." Ricky looked to Josh. "He's gonna follow us."
"And I'll kill him." Josh growled.
"Lets just think for a second, guys. If we stay in here it's too public of a place for anything to happen. The second we take her outside away from all these people I feel like there would be more of a chance he'll try something. We just have to wait till he gets bored of sitting here and gives up."
"I don't like this... Not one bit." Josh sighed, his grip on me tightening. Who was here that was a threat to me? I had a bad feeling I knew the answer and I suddenly felt nauseous. Josh kissed my forehead and rocked us back and forth a little. Maybe trying to calm his own nerves or maybe he had known mine were a bit of a mess too. I reached for his hand and held it tightly, burying my head in his neck. I didn't care that we were in public.
Man how things had changed. I was so different than before I was with Josh.. A good kind of different though.
"It's okay baby." He murmured, gently squeezing my hand in a reassuring way.
"Should I see if Chris will come here?" Ricky asked, causing Josh to quickly shake his head.
"That'll just give him more of a reason to try to come over here. It'll just bring more attention and we don't need that."
"Well we cant just sit here for hours waiting for him to leave." Ryan grumbled. "If he came here to find her then hes probably not leaving without her unless we do something." He spoke.
"And what do you suggest we do, oh smart one?" Ricky rolled his eyes.
"I think we all just need to leave quickly. Maybe if we're lucky he wont notice us leaving." Ryan spoke as if he had an actual plan. But Josh was quick to turn it down.
"Leave so that he can follow us? The last thing I need is him finding out any of the places she goes.. Let alone where she lives and I don't put it past him to follow our every move. You guys have no idea how psycho that guy is!"
"Well we cant just sit here for hours... Cant we just call the cops or something?" Ryan huffed again.
"He hasn't done anything, they cant help us. She never took the case to the cops in the first place and he hasn't technically done anything wrong while we've been here." Josh shook his head, explaining.
"Alright, new plan." Ricky started, grinning like he just came up with the most genius thing anyone's ever heard. "What car did you guys bring? Please don't say the truck."
"We brought the Challenger, but whats that have to do with anything?"
"I was hoping that was the answer. Dude you know how fast that thing is.. I say we take chances on leaving and if he tries to follow you, you leave him in the dust... Think of it kinda like real life Need for Speed."
"I still cant take any chances on him somehow finding where she lives.. I mean yeah, your plan could work Ricky but.. If he somehow catches up?" Josh was paranoid and unsure.
"Then you head to my place, throw him off. Its in the opposite direction than yours and honestly when is she ever at my place? If he finds out it won't be a big deal." Ricky spoke quietly, leaning across the table a bit.
"Alright." Josh sighed, nodding his head. "Give me two seconds to let my employees know I'm leaving and we'll go." He spoke to them before turning to me.
"You stay right by my side and don't move an inch away, understood?" Josh spoke sternly.
"Yes sir." I whispered, a little scared but I trusted him. "Now when we get up don't even glance to the right, which also means that when we're leaving you don't look to your left. Got it?" I nodded my head. "Words angel." He sounded impatient, but he was trying with me and I knew that.
"Yes sir." He kissed my forehead before getting up and taking me behind the counter with him to say bye to everyone, saying he had something come up and hes got to go quickly. No one questioned him. I kept my eyes on the floor as we left, Ricky and Ryan followed us out. Josh quickly got me into the car before taking a second to talk to the guys. I watched a familiar face come out of the cafe through the side mirror of the car, and I think the guys noticed to as they wrapped everything up and everyone quickly got into their cars.
"Everything's fine angel." He spoke soothingly. No doubt knowing my anxiety was fighting me here.
When we pulled out of the parking lot I noticed two cars following us but.. Ricky and Ryan had drove here together. We headed straight to the highway and merged on. I watched the speedometer go from 75 to 90 when he got into the passing lane. Not very many people were on the highway and our lane had no one else in front of us that we could see. So after noticing that he was only a few cars away from us still, Josh gave the car more gas and took off.
"If I ever catch you driving like this you'll never get behind a wheel again, you hear me?" Josh spoke, after noticing me watching the speedometer and seeing the cars turn to blurs all around us. "You hear me?" He growled when I didn't answer.
"I understand daddy." But god knew I had a heavy foot when it came to driving. I wasn't gonna disobey Josh though.
We were going around 130 when we realized we had probably lost him. Josh let the car slow to around 90 again and in no time we were at Ricky's place.
What we didn't think through was that it wasn't hard for Andrew to keep up with Ricky's car.
We waited for Ricky to pull up and followed the two guys into Ricky's house. I had only been over a time or two with Chris so I stuck by Josh's side.
"So what now?" Ricky asked.
"I don't know man, I..-" he cut himself off with a frustrated growl. I hated that he was so stressed and that it was all my fault. I should've never brought him into this. He shouldn't have to worry about me like this.
"Lets just think.. If by any chance he knows we're here.. I'm sure he'll come, right? So lets wait it out a bit and when the coast is clear you guys can go back to your day." Ryan spoke. Josh nodded his head and he sighed.
"That's probably our best bet."
"Is everything okay, you guys?" Ricky's girlfriend asked, walking into the room.
"Everythings fine. We'll talk later." Ricky kissed her, causing my eyes to go back to Josh.
