"How's Elena doing?" Matt said rapidly, he was trying to get his point across that he stilled cared for her. Bonnie gave him the same answer she been giving everyone that keeps asking. 'Her parents died, what do you think'. It is a simple answer, one that should end at just that. But Mattie knew how to e pushy. "Has she said anything about me?"
"Oh no. So not getting into that. You pick up the phone and call her." I said jumping into the seat besides Bonnie. He says he would feel weird calling since she's the one who broke up with him. "Yeah, but I would feel weird calling the guy that keeps glaring at me, but declares he loves me." He gives me a 'What the hell are you talking about' look and I scoff, "Matt, I love you, but if you were glaring at me in the hallways of the school, I would assume you hate me. Even Elena thinks you hate her because of all the staring and avoiding you do."
On cue, Elena walks in with a boy at her side. I assumed that was the new student at our school. Stefan Salvatore, my sister's groom in their June wedding, or my friend's new boyfriend. Matt went over and introduced himself before leaving, giving a quick greeting to Elena. Elena took Stefan's hand and brought him to the table Caroline had taken, it was a big round table.
Caroline rested her chin on the palm of her hand as they interrogated the poor man. "I watched as they prayed on him with their eyes, while I simply feasted on my meal. I had finished my grilled cheese and now ate my fries every now and then dipping them into the milkshake. Caroline kept giving me the stink eye for being an embarrassment when she is trying to make herself look good in front of Stefan. "So, you were born in Mystic Falls."
He nodded and smiled looking at the three girls an equal amount, thinking he could make it less obvious that his eyes were really for Elena alone. "And I moved when I was still young." Bonnie then asked about his parents, there was a second of silence and I knew right away. His eyes fell slightly in grief, "My parents passed away." He turned to Lena giving her a tight smile, and she said a soft sorry. I stayed quiet sipping my drink at the awkwardness that fell.
I cleared my throat, and he snapped his head at me, a smile forming on his lips thankful that I was changing the subject. "Do you have any siblings?" He laughed and handed me a napkin under the table by tapping me on the knee. I sat to his right. Elena on his left then Caroline across from him and Bonnie beside me and Care. I took the napkin and quickly wiped the corners of my mouth, now feeling slightly self-conscious. I should make sure not to eat like a pig when meeting new people.
"None that I talk to. I live with my uncle." He smiles and reaches for one of my fries. I smack his hand and pull my food away from his claws. Shaking his head with a bright smile he turns to Elena.
Caroline then interrupts their intimate gaze with her loud voice, "Well, Stefan, since you're new that means you don't know about the party tomorrow." She sent him flirty smile clasping her hands. Bonnie explains that it's a thing at the Falls.
He turns to Elena then to me, "Are you going?" Surprised, my eyes widened and stared at him. Well shit- I was not expecting that. Why is he asking me? I took too long to answer because Bonnie shoved a handful of fries into my mouth when I was about to respond. She smiled at him and nodded, saying that I would 'of course be there'.
Elena stared at me with a slight frown, Caroline too, but at least she knew I would not try anything with this new face. Elena on the other hand, no matter what you told her you can never change her mind, she is as stubborn as they come.
That night when I got to my room. I shut the door and locked it to drown out the rambling my sister went on about the new hot guy in town. Kicking of my shoes than unhooking my bra I threw it on the floor along with my jeans then jumped into bed. There was a bag of chips there from the day before when I was having an alone Supernatural marathon. I took a bite out of the chip only to spit it out into my hand and rush to the bathroom. "Gross. They're not good anymore." I shoved the bag of chips into the trash can and walked out after washing my hands and closed my room door once again.
I threw off my shirt making it land right on top of the jeans I left on the floor and walked into my closet for a clean one. Picking a random large black shirt, I slipped it on and ran into the bed jumping again though this time when I laid down my head hit a solid surface. Annoyed at the discomfort I sat up and pulled the covers back seeing my book. Not just any book, but the book I had dropped at the cemetery when the fog became too overwhelming.
That night I had but one though. How did it get into my room?
When I woke up the next morning, I did not feel as drained as I thought I would feel from everything that happened. Today I dressed up. I slipped on a black button up crop top, jeans, and a pair of sneakers. The first period I had was History with Mr. Tanner.
Mr. Tanner is one of those teachers that you wish you had never met. He is a dick, to put it simply. I have crossed him so many times I no longer have a problem with him. Unless he is messing with my friends. Tanner likes to pick on the weak and feed on them. He is also the Football coach, which I still cannot believe considering hates his job. But he takes advantage of being a coach, and bullies the players, usually Tyler. Matt is the captain.
I sat down as soon as he started talking, I was a little late. "The Battle of Willow Creek. Took place right at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls." He walked around his desk before standing in front of it. "How many casualties resulted in this battle? Mrs. Bennet?" He called her name loudly causing her to jump at the sudden boom of his voice.
Bonnie tried to play of her shock by smiling nervously, "Um-A lot? I'm not sure, but like a whole lot." She got a laugh from both me and Matt.
"Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Mrs. Bennet." He turned to Matt with his arms now crossed. He looked tired, "Mr. Donavan, would you like to take this opportunity to overcome you imbedded jock stereotype?"
A bit angry; he gave him a glare. "It's okay, Mr. Tanner. I'm cool with it." That got a couple of students to laugh. The teacher hummed annoyed at his student, going to make him go through hell once practice starts.
With an upset look he turned away from the young athlete and turned to his ex. It was well known around the school- more like the whole town- that they dated. "Elena, surly you can enlighten us about the town's most significantly historical event." She apologies shaking her head. She did not know, and I honestly did not blame her. Mr. Tanner began to pick on her and saying that he was giving her special treatment for the death of her parents. I chose to stay quiet, though occasionally, I would grunt and scoff at the teacher's voice.
Mr. Tanner turned to me, and I did not let my stare weaver, I continued to stare up at him. I know he wanted me to back down, but when I did not, he became frustrated. "Is there something you want to say, Miss Forbs?" I tightened my lips in a fake smile and shook my head. "I don't need your little attitude your sister already has enough fun giving me trouble in the next period." He had his hand in the air, a dry erase marker gripped between his fingers and used it to point at me.
"There were 364 casualties, unless you're counting local civilians." The new kid spoke, he distracted Tanner, making him interested in Stefan. Though he didn't seem up for chit chat, Stefan answered the teacher's questions, until Mr. Tanner wanted to seem like a smart ass and poked fun at our newest student.
"Salvatore. Any relation to the original settlers here at Mystic Falls?" Tanner's body twisted over to face Stefan; the kid nodded. "Well, very good. Except, of course, there were no civilian casualties in this battle," Mr. Tanner said with an 'I won' smile and went to walk away towards his desk.
Clearing his throat, Stefan sat up straighter, "Actually, there were 27, sir." His face was pulled into and angry stare, his bushy brows furrowed as he spoke down to our beloved teach in disappointment. "Confederate soldiers, they fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons. They were wrong. It was a night of great loss." As Mr. Tanner looked down in shame, Stefan propped his elbows on the surface of his desk. "The Founder's archives are, uh, stored in Civil Hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts." The class turned to Mister Salvatore, their smiled clearly at the comeback he shot at the teacher.
