Chapter 6

"Do you now understand that that pitiful neko is not my equal by far? Everything you see out there belongs to me. My kingdom. Agmardor," Kobe said from behind her.

Gail didn't answer. She just stared out of the window with a look of astonishment.

Darkness. That was all she saw when she took in the sight of hundreds of fallen down trees, dirty water and creatures who were either fighting or crawling around like scary spiders.

"It's so," Gail hesitated, "ominous."

Immediately she flinched away, afraid that Kobe would be angry because of her honesty.

Though Kobe didn't appreciate the girl's obvious dislike towards his precious kingdom he stayed where he was. "Ominous?" He repeated the word thoughtfully, like he wanted to taste how it sounded. A satisfied smile appeared on his face. "Yes, ominous. I could not find a more perfect description of my realm. That is how it shall remain and why everyone shall always keep fearing me."

Though Gail was happy that Kobe hadn't snapped, she couldn't help but wonder why he spoke as if he was born in the middle ages. It was like the boy with whom she used to talk about school and other nonsense didn't exist anymore.

Because Kobe seemed rather pleased with himself and was now in a better mood, Gail dared to speak up.

"Why am I here, Kobe? Please tell me."

Pulled out of his thoughts, Kobe turned around and faced her.

"I need you for something." Was all he said.

Gail started to get upset. "You need me for something? And that's why you brought me to who-knows-where? I demand that you take me and Kenneth back home, you poor excuse of a human being!"

Not a second after she had said those words Kobe had grabbed her waist so she had nowhere to run to. She could feel the threatening sharpness of a knife being pressed against her throat. Kobe started laughing maliciously when he noticed how badly the girl was trembling.

"Careful with what you say, little fairy. We wouldn't want any blood to be shed, now, would we?" Kobe said mockingly.

Not daring to shake her head with the knife that close to it, Gail was forced to speak. "N-no."

"I'll tell you a little secret," he whispered in her ear and all Gail wanted to do was get away from him.

"I'm no human being."

"So, if I get this right we have to go to a feared dimension called Agmardor and save our friends out of a scary castle."

Matthieu fixed his gaze on Amandine, who was still holding the map of the unknown world in her hands.

"Have you got any idea how ridiculous that sounds?" he asked her.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" Amandine yelled at him. "I thought you were the one who was going on about taking matter into own hands and getting our friends back!"

"That was before I knew we were going to have to do this kind of thing!" Matthieu shouted right back.

"You're a coward! A bloody coward!"

The other younglings gaped at Amandine. The normally quiet and calm girl suddenly seemed to have grown a humongous backbone. It was like the disappearance of her friends had awaken something inside of her.
