Chapter 9
Five days later, 1/02/2015
Amandine narrowed her eyes as she tried to get a clearer view of the forest she could make out in the distance. She had done that a couple of times already, hoping that they were getting closer.
The younglings had been walking for several days (some of them sometimes switched to flying) and to say it had been uneventful would be an understatement. She didn't get why the witches of the Interval had spoken of Agmardor as if it were such a scary place, because... well, it was deserted.
Not once had they come across another living being, let alone someone that could provide them with some water or food.
You see, that had been a slight problem the last two days. The supply of food and water they had taken with them was drastically diminished and the only thing they had eaten in the last hours was a loaf of bread.
When they had first noticed the forest about an hour ago everyone had been ecstatic .
"I can see the forest! We're almost there!" Vic had exclaimed enthusiastically, bumping into Liesa in the act who had clumsily lost her footing and had fallen on the ground.
Liesa had gotten up quickly and had taken a look for herself. "You're right! Maybe there's going to be a creek where we can get water there. Or some berries to eat!"
The thought of food had worked as such a good motivation that Amandine was currently panting because of how fast the others were walking. She was no match to the other younglings, who's pace was a lot higher than hers.
Yet she had not complained once, not wanting them to get angry at her for nagging about something she brought upon herself. It had been her decision to jump through that portal and now she had to deal with the consequences. Slowing down her friends was not something Amandine was planning on doing, even if that meant fainting as soon as they finally reached that stupid forest.

The first thing Gail noticed when she woke up was how comfortable she was. The room wasn't too hot nor too cold and it almost felt like she was lying on a cloud.
"I see you've finally decided to come back to the world of the living."
Gail quickly sat up straight, her muscles silently protesting. It felt as if they hadn't been used in ages.
Kobe was standing next to the heavenly bed she was lying on and was currently scowling out her. Gail looked around yet didn't recognize the room. Hadn't she been sleeping outside? What was she doing here?
"W-what happened?" She croaked. Her voice sounded terrible, like she was suffering from a horrible decease.
"Apparently humans aren't that low temperature resistant," Kobe spat, "you almost died! If it wasn't for me noticing in time you would be six feet under."
That made Gail boil with rage. She jumped to her feet and took a step closer, showing Kobe she wasn't intimidated.
"Well, excuse me, master Kobe," she said with a sarcastic sneer and curtsied. "I will try preventing myself from dying next time you decide to put me in a life-threatening situation!"
Now it was Kobe's time to get angry. And angry he got.
He pushed the girl up against the wall, his hand around her neck while the other one kept her wrists pinned above her head. Gail let out a scared whimper, all the confidence she had felt earlier long gone.
Kobe tightened his grip, enjoying the sight of the helpless fairy, struggling to get away from him.
"Care to repeat that?" Kobe snarled threateningly in her ear.
Gail let out a sob. She wasn't able to breath properly with Kobe's hand around her neck and was desperately gasping for the air she wasn't getting.
To think this guy had once been her friend. Seeing his true colours she couldn't believe how she had ever fallen for his act in the first place. There must have been something that gave away how evil he really was.
Kobe suddenly let go of her and smirked.
"I only now remembered how your worthless kind needs to breath in order to survive."
Gail just sat on the ground, gasping for air.
"You'll be staying here from now on. Seeing how you faint when you're locked inside a room and how you go into a five day coma when you're in a slightly colder environment, this was the only option there was left," he said.
The fairy looked at him strangely. Wouldn't putting her in another room have the same result as putting her in that first room? She would still get a panic attack as soon as he locked the door and her mind processed how there was no way out.
"Before you ask the things I know are going through your mind right now, I'll just inform you of the fact that the door won't be locked this time. I am beyond doubt that you won't ever attempt to escape."
Gail mentally laughed at this. Was he really naïve enough to believe that she would just obediently stay in this room if she had the chance to get out of here?
"And why is that?" Gail asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
Kobe walked towards the door and gestured that she had to follow him. Before he left the room he abruptly stopped walking, making her bump into him.
He grabbed her waist and whispered : " Because this, little fairy, is also my room."
--
"There it is again," the girl mumbled to herself, massaging her temples with her eyes closed. Her companion, having heard what she said put his hand on her shoulder, making her look up at him.
"What is it? Did you feel it again?" He asked urgently, staring into her blue-greyish eyes.
The girl nodded.
"Yes, it's almost time."
The boy removed his hand and turned around. As he reached the edge of the balcony he looked down at the once so beautiful kingdom.
"Good. It's time for us to make an appearance then."
