Chapter 10
If someone had told Amandine a month ago that she would compare a bunch of trees to heaven, she would've called the mental hospital straight away. But now the forest they were about to explore looked like a paradise.
"It's getting darker again," Matthieu informed his companions. "We better start setting up the tent."
Nina and her empty tummy protested.
"Why don't we split up in three groups? One that looks for food, one for water and one that sets up the tent."
Amber nodded. "Good idea. Let's go with that."
Amandine automatically took a step closer to Jaron, her good friend, wanting to be in the same group as him. Her wishes were however completely ignored as Matthieu said : "Jaron or Amandine should probably stay here though. They're the only ones who can properly set up that stupid tent."
"Why can't we both stay here then?" Jaron asked while slightly frowning.
Matthieu chuckled, amused by his classmate's indignation. "I don't think the rest of us has any experience with separating edible from poisonous food either."
Jaron smiled weakly. "You're right. We wouldn't want anyone to die before we even reach the castle, would we?"
He then threw a glance at the human beside him. "What group do you want to be in?"
Amandine shrugged. "It's all fine with me."
"Okay, then. I'll set up that bloody tent. Finding food was never really my specialty when I went camping."
"Who else wants to come with me? Nina perhaps?" Amandine asked, hopeful that her friend would be willing to join her. She didn't really feel like walking through this dark, scary forest on her own.
"Yeah, that's okay," Nina agreed happily.
A good three minutes later everything was settled. Amandine and Nina would be looking for food, Matthieu and Amber for water, and Vic, Jaron and Liesa would be setting up the camp somewhere fit in the forest.
Looking for a suited place really wasn't that difficult. The only thing the younglings worried about was getting wet because of a sudden rainstorm and the trees provided enough shelter from that.
Just when they were about to set foot in the forest Amandine's eyes landed on a board she first hadn't been able to see due to a small tree.
"Guys," she called out, squinting her eyes as she tried to make out the words, "what does that board say?"
The others halted and looked what she was pointing at. Taking a few steps closer Amandine could finally read what it said. Understand was another story.

"Explore," Gail muttered angrily as she walked through the huge hallways of the maze-like castle.
"As if I care. I just want to go home," she continued her whining.
You must be lost right now, dear readers. Let's go back in time a bit so you can catch on.
"What? We're sharing a room?"
Gail's mouth hung open in shock as she took a step back. Kobe's hand that had hung loosely around her waist now fell to his side.
He grinned. There it was again, that one smile only he could make look so rotten.
"We are. Now, as I said before, I can't keep wasting time on you. Go and explore, keep yourself busy. Just don't leave the castle, because I promise you that if you do, I will find you," he added, the threat audible in his words.
