i wasn't exactly staring at sage

but she was just staring at me minutes ago

did i have something on my face?

she scrunched her eyebrows as she stared at her phone

before turning it off and placing it down

i turned away right as she looked at me again

i could still feel her gaze on me as i picked up another fry.

we weren't talking, but it was a comfortable silence

"do you have a ride home?" i looked up at the sound of her voice

"i was going to take the bus."

"i can drive you?" she offered

it was getting harder to dislike her every single time i saw her

it wouldn't be that to spend just a few extra minutes with sage

what's the worst that could happen?

i was slowly beginning to enjoy her presence, mostly now.

i would never tell sage that though.

at my lack of response, sage spoke up again

"you live close to me, it's not out of my way."
"only because you paid."
"and not because you want a free ride?"

sage stood up, not giving me a chance to respond

i stood up as well, giving sage a look

"the movies going to end in a couple of minutes."

"and we're avoiding them because..?"

"well, you know."
"i don't actually,"
she ignored my response, holding open the mall door for me

i didn't miss how she didn't look me in the eyes, instead a little lower.

i really hate you, i think?Where stories live. Discover now
