Nick had received a call from Mak as promised. He was beyond nervous, when he was informed that he would be meeting the nightshift manager. Mak informed him that the nightshift manager is cool, but that didn't help to calm the 18-year old's nerves. He felt a bit better when he saw Mak waiting for him. She then gave him a comforting smile.
"Nick, it's going to be fine. Shay is my roommate, and I can promise you that she's not scary." Nick nodded softly as he attempted to compose himself.
"I'm hoping I'll feel better after I meet her." Nick replied with an unsure smile.
"Shay is a sweet person. It really takes a lot to get on her bad side." Nick laughed nervously.
"That doesn't make me feel any better." Mak gave him a reassuring smile as she led him to the back to find Shay still doing inventory.
"Shay, this is Nick." Shay turned around with a clipboard in one hand and a pen in the other. She gave Nick a small smile before making her way over to them.
"Nice to meet you, Nick. I'm Shay, and I run nightshift. Mak and I are the only two people besides yourself working nights, so you won't have to worry about interacting with anyone from day shift if you don't want to." Nick sighed softly.
"That's a relief, because I'm not much of a people person." Nick replied as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
"I'm not much of a people person either, which is the whole reason I wanted nightshift. Hardly anyone comes in at this time the day, which gives us time to hang out and make sure everything is in order." Nick's eyes widened.
"So I get paid to hang out here until closing?"
"Basically. I tend to focus on inventory as you see now, while Mak and yourself with make sure all the clothes on the floor are kept in a decent manner. We will have times where we rearrange things, but we did that last month, so we probably won't do that again until around the holidays." Nick nodded with a smile.
"You're not what I pictured you to be." Nick admitted with a small smile.
"You expected me to be the cold silent type?" Nick nodded as his cheeks began to heat up with embarrassment. "I can be a hardass, but that's only to the ones who get on my bad side. I don't see you being one of them, because most of the ones that have work day shift now." Shay replied with snicker.
"I just didn't expect you to be so nice."
"To be fair, I could notice how much of a nervous wreck you were when you walked in. I have anxiety, and I wouldn't have much liked someone being a bitch to me as soon as I started a job." Nick nodded in agreement.
"What made you want to hire me?" Shay sighed softly.
"In all honesty, I felt a strange feeling when I picked up your application. It was almost as if I was meant to meet you. It sounds strange, but something told me that you would be a good fit for here. I can't explain it, but I haven't had a good feeling in my gut about someone in a long time. So I decided to follow it." Mak bit her lip nervously as she looked over at Nick.
"That's so strange, because I feel oddly comfortable with both of you. I wonder what that means." Shay gave him a small smile, before going back to work.
"I believe it was destiny that led us here. Now we'll just have to see where it leds us from here."
