Mak sighed to herself as she read over the application in front of her. She never wanted to hire anyone on the spot like that, but Nick was different. She had a good feeling about him and was curious to know more. Talking to Nick was the easy part but telling Shay that she wants to hire him based on a feeling is another matter altogether.
Shay is picky about the people who gets hired. Yes, Mak is the hiring manager, but as the nightshift manager, Mak has to give her a say in the matter. Especially considering, whoever gets hired will probably work nights. Shay's not a hardass or anything, but sometimes her personal life affects what happens at work. She thinks of hiring someone as letting another person into her life, which is why she takes the hiring process so seriously.
"You look like you are going through a midlife crisis from how hard you are staring at that piece of paper." Shay joked as she walked in and sat her purse down on the desk.
"I'm just looking at applications. One guy came in today, and I really want to hire him." Mak replied with a sigh.
"Let me see." Mak then handed her the paper without hesitation.
"I might have told him he already has a job here." Mak then felt her cheeks heat up. She was afraid Shay was about to get angry, but instead she shrugged her shoulders.
"Ok." She replied before placing the application back on the desk. "Sounds good to me." Mak then stared at her in disbelief as she watched Shay walk to the back to check on inventory. She then got up and followed the burgundy haired female.
"Are you serious?" She asked in a surprised tone as Shay picked up a clip board and looked it over.
"Yeah. Why?" Shay replied without looking over at her black-haired friend.
"Because normally you take more than a glance at someone's application before hiring them."
"I don't need to this time. I got a good vibe from his application, so I'm trusting my gut feeling." Mak was still beyond shocked at what was coming out of her friends' mouth.
"You haven't followed your gut since-"
"I know. But I think I've been closed off long enough." Shay sighed softly as she placed the clipboard down and looked over at her friend. "You're right. I hold too much in, and I need to get some help. The way I've delt with things isn't healthy, and it's affecting not only me but you as well." Mak said nothing as she walked over to Shay and pulled her into a tight hug.
"I'm proud of you."
"As far as the new guy goes, I'm going based off of your judgement on this one. I have a good feeling about this one." Mak then pulled away and smiled.
"You think so?"
"I don't believe that you would lead us into the wrong direction. Besides, you've never been so sure about wanting to hire someone that you told them they got the job. I think this guy is different. I'm hoping that different is good in this case." Mak nodded with a smile. A warm feeling was forming in her stomach as she walked back up front. She was so focused on what she and Shay talked about that she didn't notice where she was going. Which caused her to bump into someone's shoulder.
"I'm so sorry." She replied immediately, before looking at who she bumped into. The guy's features reminded her of Nick's, but his gaze felt different. His eyes were the same color as Nick's, but stare caused a light blush to form on her cheeks.
"It's alright. I wasn't paying attention." He replied with a smile. His smile made butterflies form in the pit of her stomach, which kept her from being able to speak. "Have a good night." He spoke, before leaving the store. Mak couldn't bring herself to utter a word or move a muscle. All she could do was stand there and watch him walk away.
"What the hell just happened?" She whispered to herself as she tried to shake the feeling off. Little did she know of what was to come.
