Mark's heart dropped when Nick led her upstairs, and she was face to face with the boy, who she had ran into the other day. A smirk was present on his face as he passed by. Mak couldn't help the blush that was now present on her face.

"Mak, are you ok? Your face is really red." Nick asked as he laid down on the bed. He then propped his head up to where he could look at his friend.

"I'm fine. Just a little warm in here." Mak replied nervously as she pulled out her phone to check it. No new messages or calls from Shay, which worries her to no extent.

Shaybear💛

Hey. Are you ok?

Mak bit her lip as she sat down on the edge of the bed. Her leg bounced anxiously, which caused a look of concern to flash across Nick's face. Mak had seemed fine when meeting Matt, and even better when she met his mother. So Nick was confused as to why she seemed upset.

"What's wrong?" Mak sighed softly as she laid her phone down.

"I'm worried about Shay. She wouldn't tell me where she was going or what she needed to do today. Shay normally tells me everything, but about a year ago it changed. Now I worry for her constantly." Nick sat up, and scooted to sit next to Mak on the end of the bed.

"What happened?" Nick asked out of concern and curiosity.

"Shay went through something that no one should ever have to go through. I'll let her tell you the story when she's ready, but it was traumatic to say the least. Ever since then she's never been the same. She's more closed off and secretive. It just worries me." Nick wrapped his arm around Mak's shoulders, which allowed her to give him a side hug while laying her head on his shoulder.

"I'm sure she'll come around and tell you what's going on. You just have to wait until the time is right." Mak sighs softly at Nicks words.

"I sure hope you're right."

Meanwhile

Shay sighed to herself as she got into her car. A wave of relief washed over her, because she was finally starting to make changes to better herself. She wanted to sit down and have a talk with Mak about it, but wondered if she should wait. Suddenly a text from an unknown number popped up, which confused her.

Unknown

Hey. Is this Mak's friend? She gave me your number.

She scoffed to herself, because she wasn't surprised that Mak had done such a thing. This was probably her way of trying to her Shay to start making new friends or some shit.

I am Mak's friend, but I preferred to be called Shay.

You've got humor. I like that. My names Matt by the way.

So Matt, what led you to text me?

Mak, said I reminded her of you. She thinks we would make great friends, especially considering it's hard for me to talk to new people.

This might be a bit personal, but do you have anxiety too?

Shay hated the fact that she was intrigued by Matt. Especially considering this conversation was giving her a warm feeling in the pit of her stomach.

I do. It's awful. Which is why it's so hard to talk to new people. Especially ones that I want to like me.

Shay smiled softly at his words. She knew exactly what he meant, because she goes through the same thing.

I know what you mean. It's the same way for me. I've been through a lot, and so now it makes it ten times harder to talk to someone.

Exactly. I like talking to you. You're cool.

I like talking to you too.

Shay changed unknown to Matt💜
Matt changed unknown to Shay

Ooooo. A Purple Heart. I feel special.

Shay couldn't help but giggle a bit. After she got home she had found herself texting Matt again. They needed up texting until both fell asleep. Because Shay was so caught up in texting Matt, she hadn't even realized that she missed a text from Mak. Which did not get answered that night.
