To say Mak was nervous was an understatement. Of course, Mak wants to meet Nick's mom, but at the same time it doesn't sit right with her that Shay didn't come. Ever since their argument a few weeks ago, she had been worried for her friend. Shay is quiet and introverted, but when she closes herself off it worries Mak. Especially after Sam went into the military. Mak can feel Shay disconnect herself from everyone and everything, and it scares her to no end. She's worried that she'll lose Shay, but she's afraid to tell Sam what's going on. Because Sam's been depressed since she went into the military, and being stationed in Italy, far away from her family and friends, made her anything but happy.

"We're here." Nick said with a hint of excitement in his tone. His brothers are meant to be hanging out with friends tonight, which means Nick won't have to worry about his brother's meeting Mak yet.

"I'm nervous. What if your mom disapproves because I'm older than you?" Nick smiled and shook his head.

"My mom is cool. Her only concern would be if you were pressuring me into doing something." Mak nodded as they stepped out of the car and began walking towards the front door. Moments later Nick's dream of his brothers being gone was crushed when he noticed Matt sitting in the kitchen. "Matt? What are you doing here? I thought you were hanging out with friends tonight." Nick asked in an irritated tone.

"I was but they canceled so I stayed home." Matt then lifted his head to see a dark-haired female standing beside his brother. "Who's this?" Nick scoffed in annoyance at the question.

"This is Mak. She's one of my friends from work. Mom wanted to meet her. Speaking of Mom, I'm going to find her." Nick replied before storming off, leaving Matt and Mak alone together.

"I'm Matt." He spoke in a nervous tone as he stuck out his hand.

"You don't have to do the handshake. I can tell you're anxious just because you don't know me. I'm Mak, short for Makayla. You remind me of my roommate, she also has anxiety. I think you two would get along." Mak said with a smile.

"Really?" Matt replied with a nervous smile, which led an idea to pop into Mak's head.

"Absolutely. Actually, do you want her number? Since you both have anxiety, it might be easier to text then meet in person." His eyes lit up at her question, which was simply adorable.

"That would be cool."

"Let me see your phone." Matt then unlocked his phone, before handing it to Mak. She then typed in Shay's number and saved it to Matt's phone. "There ya go."

"Thanks." Matt replied with a hint of blush on his cheeks. Moments later Nick entered the room.

"Moms in the living room, and she's excited to meet you. Come on." Nick replied with a smile as he took Mak's hand and led her to the living room.

"It was nice meeting you, Mak!" Matt yelled as they disappeared down the hall. As soon as they stepped into the living room, Mak was engulfed into a hug.

"I'm so glad that we can finally meet!" Nick's mother has dark curly hair, tan skin, and she wears glasses. She was sporting a sweet smile.

"I'm Mak. It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Sturniolo." She then shook her head.

"Please, call me Mom. Any friends of my children end up being my adopted children anyway." She joked as she hugged Mak again. Meeting Nick's family didn't seem as nerve racking as she had expected. Or so she thought.
