Falling Apart

Shay was afraid to tell anyone about James calling her. She wanted to forget that it happened, but she told her therapist about it. It was her best bet at staying safe. She then filed a police report, and was able to get a restraining order, but she knew that could only go so far.

As long as James was running free, she knew that she wasn't safe. Which scared the hell out of her. Just another reminder of her past that she tried so desperately to forget. What pissed her off is that it had to happen, right when things feel like they are starting to look up for her.

She was finally getting the help she needs, she made a new friend, and starting talking to Matt. Everything was finally falling into place, and once again James had to make it all fall apart. It made her feel as through she wasn't allowed to be happy.

"Shay? You ok?" She turned to Mak, who just happened to be sitting next to her on the couch, watching her while she zoned out. Great.

"No." She admitted weakly as she brought her knees up to her chest to hug them. Mak then placed a hand on her shoulder as a mixture of emotions flashed through her eyes. The most noticeable was worry.

"What's wrong?" Shay sighed softly. She hated answering that question, but if James is trying to make his way back into the picture then Mak deserves to know. It's only fair, seeing as her life will be in danger too. James hates her with a passion, because Mak gave her the strength to get rid of James. She made her realize that she deserved better than the abuse she was receiving from him.

"James contacted me. I got a retraining order, but that can only do so much. I'm worried Mak. I don't want to give him the power to ruin my life all over again. Especially not right now. Not when it feels like everything is starting to go right for me." Shay hadn't even noticed that she was crying, until she felt a wet sensation run down her cheeks. Mak sighed softly, before wrapping her arm around her friends shoulders.

"We got through this before, and we will again. You've worked so hard on yourself, after what he did. He's not going to be ruining anything, ever again." Mak replied sternly. "If he's smart then he'll stay away, but I think it's best if we stock the house with things to defend ourselves with. Because you and I both know that he's not going to be worried about a restraining order." Shay nodded softly as she sighed deeply. She could feel an awful feeling boiling in the pit of her stomach. It scared her, made her want to panic.

"I know." She replied softly as she swallowed hard.

"Don't worry, Shay. He's not going to hurt you again. I won't allow it." Shay gave her a soft smile as tears continued to stream down her face.

"Thank you for being my friend, Mak. I don't know what I would do without you." Mak snickered at her words.

"Probably dead because you tripped and fell off a cliff or some stupid shit." They both busted out laughing at the stupid comment, trying to ease the tension that filled the room. But it didn't last long, because there was something else that needed to be addressed. "We have to tell Nick. He's in just as much danger because he doesn't know anything. We have to warn him." Shay nodded as she allowed her head to lay against the back of the couch, while she closed her eyes.

"I just hope that he'll still want to be our friend when this is all over." Mak nodded before she whispered her reply in Shay's way, while she laid her head on her shoulder.

"Me too."
