Chapter two

We race

I expected the arena to be torn up and the crowd to be locked on us.

around the arena and the stone floor showed no signs of a battle, no one paid us any attention. They were all glued to the projection screens.

"Well I guess that's a good thing," I said, "no one noticed so we can't get in trouble this time"

Will looked at me. He tried his best not to laugh but he lost "I guess you're right" he said "then again how many dragons fights burst out during the commotion. Remember a few winters back, what three-five maybe? What are we going to do with you two?" he asked, stroking Diago's forehead. He ran his hand under Diego's wing that Isha bit.

"Is he okay, can he still fly?" I asked.

"He seems fine," he said. "Is Isha okay?"

I turned to her "well girl are you hurt?" I asked, stroking her wings.

"No," she grumbled, "I think I'm fine."

"Good," I said. "Now what were you thinking attacking him like that? What got into you?"

She shrugged "I dunno," she said, shifting her weight.

" Isha," I said, "Are you jealous?"

Her molten eyes met mine then looked away again " Isha it's okay" I said stroking her wings " Isha why are you jealous there's no need to be."

"Well," she said, "You are always around them now" she pointed her head toward Will and Diago "a few hours ago you hated them and now they're what your best friends?"

" Isha no," I said, shaking my head, "no one could ever replace you. You are my best friend. Isha now and always."

She rubbed her head under my arms and made her contentment rumble.

"Come on," I said "let's go sit back down"

As we walked back to our seats I didn't realize how far they traveled. I felt eyes on my back, I turned but found no one. Will and Isha walked ahead. He tried convincing her he wasn't out to steal her spot as my best friend. She didn't look too convinced, Diago trailed happily behind. The way he switched his emotions left a pit in my stomach.

Some people still spread rumors that dragons are still bonded and in doing so are able to tap into the emotions of their other half powerful emotions that could represent themselves through their bonds. Others say that dragons are a physical form of the person's emotions and that they represent your deepest emotions. Either one made my stomach curl the way he switched in seconds. I just couldn't fully wrap my mind around it.

The back of my neck pickled, maybe someone was trying to get my attention but my family never came, they honestly didn't know where it was happening. I don't have many friends. I stopped dead in my tracks and slammed right into Wills' back but I didn't move. I found who was staring at me.

"What?" Will said rubbing his arm "what are you looking at why-" his sentence died out when he followed my eyes.

The commander of the race leaned to his advisor and whispered something in his ear without taking his eyes off me.

"Do you think he saw them fighting?" Will asked.

"Don't know," I admitted.

Will stiffened slightly "come on" he put his hand on my arm "Let's go sit down."
