Chapter Fourteen
We meet the god of disease under the ocean
I felt like I was on a roller coaster when I woke up. Bumpy and ridged.
"What's going on?" I mumbled, sitting up.
I thought I was still dreaming. I was on a blue dragon with a black saddle. The wind on my face went faster as I leaned forward.
"Morning, dewdrop," Will said so close I jumped and turned my head to see him sitting behind me. I realized we were both riding diago.
"Oh good you're up," Isha said, "hold on." she flew closer to us for me to get on. Will helped me walk across their wings onto Isha.
"What's happened?" I asked.
"Turns out you can't sleep on the beach," he said, glancing behind us "and ah people saw the manticore attack and got all freaked out so now the cops are after us and we didn't think that would be the best, so we ran for it."
"Sounds just like our luck so far," I huffed.
I laid back watching the clouds fly past. Ocean water sprayed at my face. I leaned over the side into the glittering waves in the morning sun.
Wait morning?
"How long was I out for?" I said, sitting up.
"Not completely sure," Will said "after the manticore vanished you collapsed and I fell asleep soon after. It's the next morning though."
"So where are we now?" I asked.
"Well since we're no longer welcome there I thought we should just go straight to Zimbra. we already have two days in which we need to get there."
I nodded.
I thought about home. I thought about my family for the first time, and my heart dropped. I fought back tears. They weren't even home. Maybe they were not home when the raiders came.
Maybe they left before anything happened.
The gods went missing years ago and they abandoned us in the dragon war. They refused to control their creations; they let so many die. At least that's what the school says.
I knew the old gods created dragons. I never would have thought they could do something like that. I guess a lot of people think that of humans too and look at what they've done. I've heard many stories about different dragon gods and goddesses. There are many forms, many shapes, and many subjects.
I didn't think that they would just abandon them like that or let them wreak havoc on the people they lived with. It didn't make sense that they would do that, the dragons bonded with people, why would they attack them, why would they suddenly do that?
The history people, when the queen of Sagamore saved everyone, and when she was able to control the dragons she was blessed with eternal life so that if it ever happened again, she'd be here to stop it.
I always wondered when I was younger as to why a dragon would bless a human with a dragon's life. His followers, the dragon of life, his worshipers, people, and dragons alike pushed them down if one suppressed the other. Why would he reward them? Why reward one species for suppressing another for dominating them by force? Making them work for their lives chained into cages and have all kinds of things done to them.
Why would a god congratulate them on doing that especially since dragons are his kind?
It never made sense to me.
