Chapter Eighteen
Frogs the size of kids and poisoned waterfalls
I couldn't see my hand in front of my face
"guys'' I said, "light, please." the dragon's chest lit up flames peaking in and out of their strong jaws. Even Vieta lit up, which I had no idea was possible. Well, I guess he is a dragon after all.
"This way," Cleo said, ducking past us through the flames dwelling into the darkness. Vieta's dark eyes flashed as Cleo disappeared.
"Come on," I sighed.
We walked silently for a long time, just watching our feet shuffle in the dry dirt. Stepping over thick roots and dangling vines.
I bumped into someone's back and stumbled, "what's wrong?" Cleo was stopped in front of a large pool of water.
"Is there any way across?" I asked.
"Probably," Celo said, "but this wasn't here before."
"Before?" I asked, "you've been here before?"
she nodded "many times'' she laughed. "I had to go under the radar a lot. You could say I wasn't the best-behaved princess. But this shouldn't be here. It's not the rainy season that's months away."
I grabbed a small stone and tossed it in the middle of the water. Its clear water rippled as it sank.
They just stared at me and said, "I hoped it wouldn't sink too far."
"Nice one," Isha mocked. I glared at her.
Pebbles fell into the water from the side, a pair of small eyes stared at us through the darkness. It slowly started to come out but then stopped. I thought it was a small child, skinny and weak.
"Hello," Cleo said, "are you lost?"
"why is she talking to that?" Isha said, picking one of her feet up, "things like that in caves are never good."
The child ran, and Cleo followed. "Wait!" she shouted, as she clambered across the drywall, gripping the roots, and ducked into the small opening on the side.
We chased after her calling her name, but she didn't answer. Vieta sniffed the ground and started to whimper. I put my arms out, and he jumped into them, he dug his large claws into my shoulder tightly.
"Somethings wrong," I said, "I have a feeling that she would never leave Vieta like that." I looked at Isha.
"Diago found her," Will said. He sniffed around the ground he turned in circles, perked up, and darted down. We ran after him dodging the thick roots. The space was getting tight. Isha scraped the walls, and dirt fell all over us.
"I told you this was bad," Isha said.
"Not now!"
We pushed until the place was so tight the dragons were practically taking it down. we busted into the fun light and tripped over one another.
I stood coughed the dust from my lungs and dusted myself off. Diago sniffed around again after they managed to untangle themselves from each other. We ended up back in a forest clearing, the ground was squishy moss-like plants grew over the entire ground even right to the edge of a large lake with a waterfall pouring from the mountainside. huge wild koi fish swam around the calmer parts of the lake some nibbled on the roots of the bamboo-like trees that grew too close to the lakeside. as we walked closer to the pool my chest grew hot and the closer I got to the water the hotter it became. until there was a physical pressure pushing me back. I slipped on the wet rocks near the bank.
